Alright, i'm in a bit of a situation. i've applied for my visa, but will be flying into SK before it is completed. I've got a one-way booked into Seoul and will then go to Japan a week or so later to get my E2 visa finalized. I don't have my japan flight booked. will it be a huge hassle at immi since i've just got a one-way into South Korea? The last time i went to SK, i had my visa beforehand, so this wasn't an issue. |

IF you are going to have a problem it will be at the airline check-in counter before you board the flight to Korea.
They (the airline) are the ones responsible for your repatriation costs and they are the ones who get fined if there is any problem with your entry (because you plan to travel and enter on a visa waiver stamp as compared to ANY real visa).
Return or onward passage IS a requirement for entry on a visa waiver stamp.
Be prepared to purchase an exit ticket FROM Korea if necessary when you head for your flight. You may or may not get checked by the airline counter staff.
Korean immigration WON'T check when you arrive here.

If you buy a boat ticket from Weidong ferries from Incheon to Weihai or Qingdao you can cancel it for free. Just book a ticket then cancel it the next day and show that to the airline if they gve you problems. |

I'm leaving for my first job in 4 days. Is this an actual concern? According to my school, I'll arrive in Seoul and then fly down to Guam to get my visa finalized.
The job was an ASAP. If the ferry thing is something I should consider, does anyone have more info? |

coming from the states it is a very real concern. Just be prepared to buy a refundable ticket out of Korea if necessary and cancel it when you arrive. |

ttom,
is it okay to enter on a tourist visa (w/ a roundtrip booked ahead of time), and then go to guam to get an e2 visa before the return leg of the roundtrip?
or, is it possible to do that w/o getting a roundtrip ticket?
i'm in a related predicament, but considering coming to seoul first to land job (for several reasons), and then go to guam for visa run w/o having to go back to US.
thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

AS long as you have an exit ticket (whether you use it or refund it doesn't matter) you are fine. So is doing the visa run to Guam.

Thanks TTom. Is the visa run to Guam still doable considering I will be a first time E2 visa applicant? |

As long as you are a US citizen it is. |

anyone know the site for the china ferry or it they issue a eticket or something that can be shown to the airline so that I can get to Korea on a one way ticket? I found one site but it doesn't have online booking which makes me think that they also won't have a eticket or anything else. I have done a year in korea before and am trying to come over to interview in person and then do the japan visa run but I want to leave quickly and don't want to go through the hassle and cost of getting a tourist visa. |
