Has anyone gotten any dental work done here while being here on a tourist visa. The last time I worked here I had some dental work done at a fantastic dental practice. It was about half the price as it would have been for the same treatment back home.
So I'm wondering, is it more expensive to get dental work done if you aren't covered under national health care? Does NHC cover any of the costs?
cheers. |

Your visa status is a non-issue while seeking dental treatment.
Strongly recommend dental work here. I find it to be the same level of quality for a fraction of the cost. Its generally always cheaper here than WITH dental insurance in the states.
To the best of knowledge, the only thing covered under Korean Health Insurance are root canals. |

Scaling is not covered by NHIC. You pay what they ask and it varies a LOT.
Basic drill and fill with NHIC is 3500 won.
Without NHIC can run from 10k and up to 100k.
Root canal, post, fill and (non precious metal) crown is about 500k.
Veneers are about 100k each tooth.
Basic orthodontics (braces) cost about 1/2 what they do in North America ($2500 for the complete 2 year run). If you want to get clear it can cost substantially more.

Also tooth extraction. Had a wisdom pulled yesterday. It cost 100,000, would have cost 10,000 with insurance. |

I have been to a few different dentists and have had a ton of work done.
Scaling- paid 30K, 50K same scaling procedure as back home
Frontal white(composite) fillings 60K-80K
Molar white fillings 120K-200K
Root canal once without insurance 125K, the second one i had health insurance and it was covered 100%.
Post and Gold crown.(canal was done but covered) 350K
BlackJack just mentioned extraction being covered. Makes sense that this is also covered as extraction and root canals are oral surgery prodedures. All white fillings are considered cosmetic, so they are not covered at all.
These prices are excellent considering the quality of work I had done and the amount of money I had been used to paying with insurance in the States. |

You tell the dentist that you'll teach his kids for a barter - can't hurt to try. |
