Inexpensive stockbroker required by yours truly to buy on both the NYSE and LSE (New York and London exchanges).

PM me if necessary.

I have tried two local outfits and both want to charge me a % on buy and sell plus a fixed charge at both ends. I remain unimpressed. Today's joker wanted to see my bank statements Shocked

Any recommendations welcome.

Just open a self managed E*trade, Ameritrade, Scottrade, or any other online brokerage account.

Low commissions through online trades, with the option of a live broker for an added charge.

Also, there are other threads concerning this issue. Run a search and you may get lucky.

Thanks Max. Tried a search and got nada. E*trade will be the way to go but it seems a rigmarole.

do it all on the 'net.

as mentioned above - not difficult at all. if you are an inexperienced newbie - a great broker is buyandhold.com as they have a basic package with two window trades free per month and a 6.99 per month account fee. large mutual fund companies like fidelity.com also have basic brokerage accounts.

it is an immeasureable aid to have a usa mailing address - almost impossible to open account with the discount brokers without one. use a relative's address then turn off the paper - chose electronic statements as an option.

most good online brokers will also have a lot of educational info you can access as well.

Thanks Zark. I'm a Brit so I have no mailing address for stateside. I'll be jumping through the regulatory hoops in due course to get myself registered here.

May even post the experience.

My wife's sister got stung by her Korean stockbroker. The guy started playing with her money without telling her, lost some, then denied it, then said her sister told him to do it. Lying git lost half her money. And in the end - after an investigation - the Law believed the stockbroker.

Fonzie, either your pay is no good or you're overspending.

I'll revive this thread when I get around to it.
