I had the same question. I was debating between the viliv Android pmp, Cowon J3 and the iRiver K1 (HD Smart). It really depends on what you are looking for. I personally went with Cowon J3. (I had a iPod Touch 1st gen). The biggest thing I miss is the apps. The new iPod touch will probably be coming soon if you are willing to wait. I got tired of waiting for Cowon's Android pmp so I went with J3. Audio quality is amazing and the battery life is unbelievable. It also has a microSD slot for expansion. There are many websites that do comparisons between iRiver, Cowon and iPod if you google it. Some Youtube videos will also show you the players in use. Overall, sound is great with Cowon. iPod is great because it has so many more features (app store) even though sound is not as good. I haven't played around with the HD Smart but it was very tempting. The only reason I went with J3 is because of the audio quality. If that isn't a factor for you, I would go either iPod (the new touch coming out because of the apps) or the HD Smart. I heard rumors of the HD Smart 2 (iRiver K2) a long time ago but I don't know when that will come around. Both the Cowon J3 and HD Smart have AMOLED screens so they are extremely vibrant. Hopefully this helps.
Oh, I got J3 at HiMart for about 230,000won. It's the 8gb DMB model. Not sure if that was a good price but eh. I'm happy with it. |

I've been seriously looking at the J3 as well. Looks very nice with very good reviews. The expansion slot is a big selling point and obviously the top sound quality.
I had a Touch 2G but it was destroyed in NZ before I made it to Korea. How I miss it. Never really got into exploring the app capabilities all that much but if I did I would have probably liked it even more. The wifi was also a bonus but not essential.
What kind of price drop would you see in 2-3G Touch once the 4G is out? Budget is an issue so I won't likely be forking out for a 4G.
After music, my primary use for it would be apps to entertain myself on buses and flights etc. as I'm planning to have it for travelling post-Korea in Feb.
I'm leaning towards the J3 for expansion, sound, battery and a few apps.
But then the K1 is looking just as good with equal to/'almost the same'' features and a 16GB price of W211,000 on GMarket ,no wifi. 238,000 wifi
aaand I'm swinging back to the K1 me thinks |

| If price is an issue, I would definitely go with the K1. It's a solid player with a lot of the features. The wifi would be a nice add on. I plan on traveling as well so I went with sound quality and battery life. If I were in your position, K1 would probably be the way I would go. |
