Uk council workers subject to ridiculous questions.
My favorite -
"a motorist who found her car in a different parking spot from where she thought she had parked it, rang the council to ask if it was haunted."

I can't think of one I've made, but I did have a coworker once who was planning a trip to New Orleans. She called the tourism office and said she wanted to see one of those funeral processions with a band playing. She was informed that someone would have to die first. |

I once had to phone the poison control hotline to see if my dog would be okay after eating an etch-a-sketch. In fairness, the vet had told me to call, but I still felt like a moron. |

Not a call I made, but one I received; I took an emergency call one night from a man who was distraught and panicking. He was shouting into the phone that his nephew (who lived with him) was trying to cut his own throat. When the duty sergeant heard the name of the man, he told me to hang up on him. I did, after telling the man to ring back on the normal station number. When he rang back tearfully, I managed to find out that the nephew had been spending a good few minutes slashing away at his neck below his ear, doing everything he could to cut it, with an electric razor. He had, to that point, managed to make a red mark on the skin. |
