At the small-town high school where I teach, my co-teacher is in her first job, just out of college. In some ways we are both figuring things out.
One of the expectations is that we set up something called an "English Language Cafe", but neither of us has much idea of what this involves nor what is expected, nor where to find out.
Naturally, we've tried to google those words, and you can imagine the difficulty in deciding which hits might be relevant.
If anyone has any links or information or experience to offer, it will be much appreciated.
Apparently there are a lot of funds budgeted for this effort, and I have been given free reign to recommend things like Scrabble, Monopoly, Pictionary, Trivial Pursuit--but which version(s)?--and other games. Plus things like Magnetic Poetry and other resources which might be useful.
Any suggestions? |

My classroom is the "English Cafe" at this school. It's kinda like a classroom though, but with 6 group tables instead of the normal rows. It has 7 computers in the room, a little library with English books/movies. And a fancy touch screen and marker boards and crap. |

Our school has an English Cafe and a English Zone.
The English Zone is the special classroom that most schools have..the wooden finishings, modular tables (trapezoid shapes) etc
Our English Cafe is generally a normal classroom, with resources such as English books, games, movies, magazines and two computers. There are also some couches, tables and office chairs. It is used as a 'drop in'zone where students can come and talk to English teachers (we have two natives and 6-8 korean english teachers, so we are rostered so that most lunch breaks there are teachers in the Cafe -although the number of students is usually 0 atm). They also have cable tv, so students can watch english shows, as well as using the tv for organized movie events. |
