|
|
Hey everyone-
I recently recently received a teaching position in Bucheon and will be moving there at the end of July. I've never been to Bucheon before, or South Korea
I'm very excited to move there and have heard a bit about the city through my recruiter and the ever reliable wikipedia lol. But! If any of you live in Bucheon or have visited the city before, I would love to hear what you have to say about the place. I love to travel and have never been to a place I didn't like...I'm sure Bucheon will be no exception. However, it would be great to hear some info from someone with firsthand experience before I arrive. Any information would be welcome....
Thanks so much and hope to hear back!

It's fine. You will be close to Seoul which is key for most. There are a few foreigner bars. Rhythm & Booze and the Park. I don't live there though, I live in Incheon, the city to the west. |

Been here 3 years. The downtown area jung dong/sang dong is where
all want to live. It is a nice place. Clean-ish for Korea, parks, decent malls,
a few good bars.
I guess the only real negative is that is more or less a small town. and the
foreigners tend to know more about each other than actually knowing them.
Small town gossip kind of scene.
Good luck with everything. |

One of the better places to live in Korea no doubt. |

I've been in Bucheon for 2 years. I like it and am happy with it. I definitely prefer here than living in Seoul. I wouldn't call it a small town as it's a city of a million people, but with the foreigner scene it kinda is. Anything in particular you want to know? |

Bucheon's great. Been here for over two years and don't want to leave. If you've got any questions about it, send us an email. |

I've been here close to a year. I like it overall. I think, for me, in spite of the proximity to Seoul, I find it hard to get out because there is SO MUCH here. You don't really need to travel to find things (except Mexican food).
There are a lot of foreigners here with a lot of foreigner things. It's really a scene, I think. (I personally find this disagreeable, but maybe I wouldn't if I was in the cool kids crowd).
I'm heading away in a few weeks to bluer skies and redder lava tubes. In general, I think most people like Bucheon. It is a great place to live. |

It's about an hour from Seoul on the subway (depending on where in Seoul you're headed). It's a clean city. Lots of bike paths. Not too heavy traffic on the roads. There's an outdoor market. There are cinemas, malls, nice restaurants and terrace bars. Big foreigner population. Two universities. |

It also depends where in Bucheon you are. It is a pretty big city. The closer you are to Seoul, the older (and dirtier) it is. The area around Sosa station is very different from Songnae, while the area around Bucheon station is something in between.
Personally I enjoyed it for the reasons others have given. |

They have an awesome Mexican food place here now, right by Songnae station, where the guy makes his own Salsa, Refried Beans, and Guac. And the burritos are the size of your forearm. Best Mexican food I've had in Korea, in fact! |

More details, please. Like, what subway exit should I use? |

Ha! Get off at Songnae Station and take the Bucheon Exit, not the Incheon exit. Walk towards the intersection. On your side will be the buses, and on the other side, on a diagonal, will be a big building called "Toona." Walk towards the Toona. Once you're in front of it, continue to walk left down that street. Very soon you'll see a place called "Taco Ria" to your right. The place is awesome. Sometimes he doesn't make Guac, though, like, on Tuesday nights when business is slow. But on the weekends he pretty much always makes it.

I think that I know the place you mean. It's on the pedestrian street near the PIFAN monument (with the film guy at the top), right? |
