I interviewed at a school for a position that pays 2.4 mil won. From what I can tell from the current and former teachers, everyone the school has hired is in their late 20s/30s and has more experience in eduction than your typical teacher straight out of undergrad. Is this the type of good hagwon job that I am read about on eslcafe.com but never seems to exist?

Thanks,
Tactical Buddhist

There's a very popular hagwon in Pohang (sorry, can't remember their name) that only hires experienced/qualified teachers.
It's very popular with Korean mums.

So what tactics do you utilize towards the end of Buddhism?

Tacticalbuddhist,

Slightly higher base pay, and slightly more experienced (and possibly more professional/settled) teachers can indeed make a better job experience. Even a small improvement in certain areas can make a job MUCH better. I don't know if the one you were offered is one of the "great ones," but it might be, and the things you mention are the things I would look for...if housing is also bigger/better, then the teachers are also probably much happier, and higher teacher morale makes a MUCH more pleasant work experience. I hope you did indeed land one of the good ones! Good luck!

The end of Buddhism? I don't follow.

End as in a goal. If you're a tactical Buddhist, in your pursuit of Buddhism, what are your tactics?

A professor of mine in grad school started calling me a 'tactical buddhist' after I suggested arming victims of genocides with AK-47s to give themselves a fighting chance.

Most victims of genocide are dead.

In the case of attempted genocides which fail to eliminate the entire target population (which is the case with most genocides), I think it's reasonable to label the survivors victims of genocide. They've certainly been harmed, and and the act of genocide is certainly what caused said harm.

Like System of a Down--well, several generations removed (does that make sense? I never had a firm grasp over "generation(s) removed).

The Pedantic Semantic agrees, but thinks that the post was poorly worded.
