Dear All,
i need some information regarding Extension of Visa.
now i am on E-7 visa. my visa is going to finish on 30th Sept. 2010.
i have another job offer. so, my new employer will apply for Visa.
but one of my friend inform me it will take 5 weeks min. because immigration office will verify my employer and University.
so, i would like to know how will i extend my visa for extra time.
one of my friend inform there is one provision for Extension of my visa for 1 month. is it true?
your prompt reply would be highly appreciated.

A non-working extension of your visa is allowed for 30 days for the purposes of finalizing your affairs or tourism.
If you need longer than that, talk to an immigration office. You may be able to change your status to "G" for the necessary 5 weeks.
An alternative is to pop outside the country and return on a tourist visa (or visa waiver entry stamp if your country of origin qualifies for one). This would give you 90 days while you are waiting for immigration.
