My fiance and I are hoping of getting jobs in the middle east. I have a BEd and a TESL Canada Certification (from courses taken at my university). My fiance has a BA and 2.5 years experience teaching abroad. He was looking into doing a CELTA course in Vietnam but this would leave me with no income for a month.
I found this online program http://www.ontesol.com/ which is accredited by TESL Canada. After taking the program online, you can apply for a practicum (that can be arranged overseas) and then apply to get the TESL Canada Professional Certification Level 2.

It's a whole lot cheaper and easier if he does this course instead. Do you think this would be acceptable for employment in the ME?

Depends on the employer.

Some will accept it.

Some will not and they will insist on one of the branded ones (CELTA / Trinity TESOL).
