|
|
I was working with one recruiter (call him guy #1) on finding a public school position and things have been going okay with them. A bit slow to respond, but okay.
A few days later, another guy (guy #2) calls who claims that he is working along with guy #1. He knows my case well and guy #1 by name. I get to talk and he says that the other guy will call.
I think this is weird. I get into contact with guy #1 and asks him if he knows guy #2. He says that he has not heard of that person. Definite wtf situation so far.
Today, I get an e-mail from somebody at a completely different recruiting agency (guy #3) who I had contacted about a hagwon position several months ago and never heard back from. He said that *he* is working along with guy #2. Then, guy #3 offers me a vacancy for a public school position in South Korea.
Is one recruiter attempting to steal me from another recruiter? Or has guy #1 been pimping out my resume to other recruiters? If so, then why? It just seems so weird that they know about my situation so well, yet they are from different recruiters. Has this happened before?
I haven't handed in any application to GEPIK. I'm just in the interviewing stages. So, I should be okay in using both recruiters right? |

yes happens all the time. It happened to me when i got this after school job. I was recruited by a guy, then my would-be boss calls me and tells me to stop all future conversations with the recruiter and to deal with him personally from that point on. He told me to tell the recruiter i had second thoughts and to tell him i was going back home. lol he was point blank and told me he didn't want to pay the recruitment fee. |

That's different though. That's an employer cutting the recruiter out of negotiations because the employer was a cheap bastard who didn't want to pay for it.
This is one recruiter trying to steal me from another recruiter by offering me a different job vacancy. |

Does it matter?
As long as you get to talk with the school before you sign anything, I don't see the problem. |

Recruiters are a seedy bunch. Use at your own risk. |

Seems quite common for one recruiter to leave an agency and steal the list of contacts (i.e. native-English speakers looking for work). Got a couple of jobs from these rebels. Basically they were going solo and starting their own company. I got very good deals at the time.
As long as you get a decent job then it doesn't really matter who the recruiter is because once you get the job then they are finished with you. |

Normally, you don't want duplicate resumes being passed around to the same schools.
I know with EPIK, sending them two applications automatically removes you from consideration. I haven't sent in any applications with GEPIK. So, I'm not sure that's the same. |

And why would you willingly want to support this? If everyone posts as many resumes to as many recruiters working for as many schools....yada yada yada....the schools will either have to choose no teachers or a teacher who has their resume submitted multiple times (either through the teacher's knowing or not).
The only reason why this one resume system is working is that enough people are obeying some absurd rule that these followers don't even know the leader's name that drummed up such a stupid command.
The solution is to not worry about how many schools get your resumes or how many recruiters send your resume to one school. Eventually, the school is going to have to realize, "We shouldn't apply a double standard where we can have many recruiters, but the teacher can only have one." |

Oh, it's totally dumb. I agree with you on that. It's just that it is a rule and disagreeing with it does not mean you can break it without facing any consequences. If I have to follow that rule to get a job, then there's not much choice.
The point is moot as I have contacted that second recruiter. I feel safer knowing that it probably won't screw me over. |

There are no consequences if enough people break it. No evil satan will take everyone to hell on a fiery boat bound for Hades.

Who said you have to follow this rule? By following this rule that you have already acknowledged is "totally dumb", you are supporting it through your inaction to disobey it.
The funny thing is you can't play the "newbie" card. A newbie wouldn't know not to do this. Teachers who specifically know this will stop them from being accepted are keeping this "totally dumb" rule in effect. |

Is anyone surprised that recruiters would try to cheat each other? |

If the school wanted to hire a teacher directly then they should recruit directly. If they are cheating the recruiter out of his recruiting fee, then you can be sure that they'll try to do the same to you when the time is right.

Wow! They're usually such an honest bunch. It's really hard to imagine them screwing someone over. What's this world coming to. Next thing you know, politicians and lawyers will also be lying to people. |

Say it ain't so, Tro!
This recruiter thing sounds like a big bunch of old Down's Syndromery. |

Except that not enough people are going to break it.
Which means that he has to follow the rule if he wants to get a job.

That's a major assumption on your part. I never had problems finding a job when I applied. The problem I had was choosing which school to commit too.

How come your "real world goals" are limited to what happens in PARTS of Kimchi land? You are definitely showing signs of narrow mindedness. |
