Are there websites for sending text messages to phones? (paying or free) The cell phone companies in a lot of countries have sites where you can send a text message to a cell phone. Do these exist in Korea? If so, what are the web addresses? |

I texted last year through Yahoo messenger. It's totally free. Just put in the phone number where the screen name would go. |

Texts to phones in Korea on Skype costs about 48won each. That is probably the easiest English language option. There is probably a slightly cheaper Korean version. |

Do you mean to Korean phones?
I can text through Nate On, I think there's a small charge but there's ways to get free texts too.
So when I get a message, it comes in to both Nate On messenger and to my phone. I can reply on the computer instead of my cell if I am online.
I am sure there are other ways if you search around Naver. |

Nate On gives you like 50 free text messages a month. And they're the longer colormail texts, not the regular shorter texts. Works pretty well. It's all in Korean, but not that hard to figure out. |

Does Nate On require some id number or something for Korea residents only? I had a quick look and I got something that seemed to imply that from a bit I put in an automatic translator.
For me unfortunately it's all in Korean and hard to figure out. |

Thanks. I guess I'll have to leave it until I get to Korea then, unless the submitting proof later is easy and without a short time limit. |

Any other options out there now?
NateOn requires a Korean phone right?
They charge a fee anyways so it would be cool if something out there was free.
And Yahoo Messenger doesn't seem to work any more in Korea. |

Google voice is great and allows to and from SMS. The problem is it is hard to get an account from overseas. You have to use a VPN or have someone in the US set it up for you. After you have the account, you can sign on globally, you just can't setup the account globally. It is also a great way to have a US phone that emails you the voice mails. I couple mine with a Skype number for a really great overseas solution. I call and receive calls from the US (from real phones, not Skype accounts) for $60 a year unlimited. |
