How long would you say it is safe to run a laptop at average room temperature before overheating could cause actual hardware damage?
I'm downloading some crucial torrents at the moment and some are uber slow so I'm leaving it on for about 6 hours at a time, often watching a movie on it and some web browsing during that time. It' does get warm but not worryingly so.
Just thought I'd try here as not much help sprang from a web search. |

unless the machine is damaged its unlikely overheating will cause any damage. If the temperature reaches a high level, it will shut down on its own. This level is below what would normally cause damage. So unless the sensor has been damaged you'll be fine. |

A warm laptop is absolutely normal.
In fact, unless the laptop is in a very hot room, and the CPU is running at or near 100% all the time, and something is wrong with your cooling parts, it's quite safe to leave a laptop running 24/7.
Some people think computers get increasingly hot as they run.....they don't. If the fans and heatsinks are working as they should then the laptop won't get any hotter than it does after about 20 minutes use. |

talking of laptops and heat. i had to buy one of those external usb fans slates (10,000won) that the laptop sits on because there is something wrong with the wifes laptop computer. its gets very hot and grinds to a near halt in perfomance without that extra cooling fan.
but as mentioned im guessing the overheating is caused by a broken internal or dust clogged fan. ive been quoted 90,000won in yongsan for a replacement which i scoffed at. for now the external fan is working fine for it |

Would you swear to this?
Reson being I have downloaded loads of films and Tv shows recently and will not need to do any new downloading for months.
I am a reciprical torrents user though so I am still seeding all my torrents until they are at at least a 1:1 ratio.
I want to get that over and done with so I can give my hardrive a nice long rest from torrents up and down loading for a few months and also not have it having to be used for that whilst doing other tasks also.
So I plan to leave my laptop on for a 12 - 24 HR period in order to seed all my torrents to a 1:1 ratio and then clear all torrents from my torrents engine.
Sound like an okay thing to do? |
