| just got offered 2.6 for woosong with an apartment. Its only 2100 bucks but how much is 2.6 a month in Korea? Is it a good Salary? How would you be able to live? I have absolutely no idea. Please help. I would make up to 4000bucks a month in Japan and felt quite well off. |

That's pretty good money. You could be quite comfortable, but then again, that's "be our slave"-sized money if you get in with the wrong hagwon. No idea about that school though.
Why would you leave a $4000 job in Japan? |

As far as I know 2.6m per month is at the high end for a starting salary here.
You are not going to make USD4000 (5m won per month) unless you have been here a number of years and have permanent Residency (F2 status) and the right qualifications.
The 2.6m will include housing so you can expect to save about $US1000 per month comfortably. |

It can be either/or or both depending how you are scheduled for the semester. You can choose one over the other if you have a preference. |

Most newbies will start at 2.0-2.3 million. The ones with real teaching credentials and/or good looks might start out a tad higher but those are far and few in between.
Congrats on your offer!
Edit- Didn't read your $4,000/month in Japan comment.
You're making $4000/month in Japan and you want to come to Korea to make just barely half that?

If your contract is through the Foundation then you will most likely teach a variety of classes. You may be teaching at their language institute and/or regular university classes. Their are over 100 English instructors at Woosong and they fill a variety of roles.
Contracts are usually for 20 hours but people generally work less than that. Woosong takes into consideration the type of classes you are teaching when scheduling your work load.
Of course why don't you just ask Woosong's HR department. They can certainly give you better answers than this board. (I am an Woosong Instructor)
I can say I am generally happy with Woosong. I certainly have very few complaints (no job is perfect). |

I thought I heard Woosong only paid their instructors 2.1 million won. (English academy, if this is what you're working for.) Not sure if this is what you're being offered for a job. Maybe their salaries have gone up. |

hey toadkillerdog,
can you tell me more about Woosong. Yes, it's with the Woosong Educational Foundation.
Teaching hours are 20 right? but what are the office hours are you on a set time?
DO people do overtime for other companies or for woosong? how much can you max out on money wise?
What's Daegu like? is there a night life? are there clubs like sports clubs tennis clubs etc... things to do for expats? |

Generally 4 contact hours per week. You may choose to do more than that if you wish.
Over-time opportunities are avaliable at Woosong. How much money depends on what is offered and what you accept and actually work.
Woosong is not in Daegu. Daejeon. There are clubs and things for expats. With 100+ foreign English instructors there is a pretty lively social scene. Drinking for sure but also tennis groups, hiking, martial arts, etc.
The HR dept, would, I am sure, be able to provide you with more specific info if you ask them. |

I heard this uni is a horrible place to work at. Can anyone else confirm this? |

Be careful with hagwons, they can be tricky. 2.6 is really good starting.
The cost of living is substantially higher in Japan, so you'll be very well-off with 2.6, especially if they are paying for your apartment. Just make sure you're not working 12 hours days for it. |

Were you drunk when you wrote this? I sincerely hope you aren't a sober English teacher. |
