|
|
I've done KEB online transfers at school and with the Mac software they provide. Either way I've had to use the OTP generator in addition to the digital certificates. So I'm wondering: does the OTP generator work overseas? Or is there a way to avoid using the OTP generator? |

I've made KEB online transfers while overseas. just the number card (is that the OTP?) and digi cert have sufficed, i.e. it didn't behave any differently for me than normal just because i was outwith korea. I do seem to recall doing business at 4am Korean time didn't fly. |

I also have the security card with numbers in the back which I've never used . I have an OTP generator which is like a small electronic doodad with a button that generates numbers. I'm not sure how the OTP generator works so I'm wondering if it works outside Korea. |

I've always just used the security card w/ the numbers and have never had any problems as long as the certificate was installed. |

Once you are issued an OTP and have it registered with your internet banking account, then your previous security card from the same bank is automatically superseded and invalidated. It is not allowed that you switch between two authentication methods at your convenience, at least within a financial institution.
Using the OTP generator overseas does not affect your banking, since it's just a mathematical algorithm, not an IP tracker. And its irreplaceable battery lasts for at least a couple of years, in my experience. But if the power is depleted or you loose the thing, then there's absolutely nothing you can do from overseas to have it replaced or substituted. You just have to report to the managing branch in person. |

Thanks for the details on how all this authentication works! |
