I see that the new Kindle 3 will display Korean text, but as far as I can tell they don't seem to have any actual Korean books available. Does anyone know if any of the Korean e-readers use a format that can be converted to read on Kindle?
I don't have a Kindle yet but I'm drooling over one. It would be very cool if I could read Korean books on it too. Mostly I'd be looking for things like kid-chapter-book level, for language practice. |

I'm also curious about the Kindle 3 with Korean text. I would hope that a Korean text converted into a pdf would show without any problem unless there is a limited number of compatible fonts to choose from. Hopefully someone could test it out for those of us that are waiting on the fence. |

I checked a few books there and they say they are epub format. I think these will work on a Kindle (maybe they have to be converted?) but not completely sure. |

I'm not a fan of the Kindle. It's a bit too restrictive. I bought the Sony eReader Touch Edition last year and have been happy with it. I can download books from several different stores and project Gutenburg; I can highlight and take notes with the stylus, expand the memory with an SD card, play music, and load PDFs without any complicated file converting. The only thing I don't like about it is that the price has dropped substantially since I bought it. |

I don't know where you got your Kindle facts...
I have a Kindle 2, and it displays Korean text. I downloaded a sample of a Korean language learning book and the hanguel shows up. I guess I don't know about an entire Korean text though. |

I discovered that Kyobo has ebooks in both ePub and PDF. Pretty sure the PDFs should work on a Kindle.
I tried buying a book yesterday to check it out, but I'm not sure if it worked or not. My credit card payment is still pending. |

I saw a Korean e-book called Biscuit sold by Interpark. It looked similar to a Kindle but I'm not sure about it's functions. Maybe worth a check. |

I have the Kindle 2 and it works with Korean text fine, my Kindle 3 is coming and it should also work.
I don't find it restrictive at all. I get plenty of ARCs from various publishers and various formats and they all work just fine. |

Well, I've been attempting to buy a Korean e-book just to see if I could. Tried both yes24 and kyobobook. Yes24's security thing didn't like my credit card number. On kyobo I was able to actually buy the book, but to download it I need to install a program called "eBookCase" and that's where I'm having trouble. It's just not working on my machine. The installer is all in hangul and it's just displaying as question marks (probably due to my computer's OS, I guess). I'm pretty sure I'm pushing the right buttons but once the program comes up it doesn't do what it's supposed to. Alas.
This seems to be a pretty widely used program in Korea, at least as far as I can tell. I found some public library sites that lend e-books by eBookCase. |

Are E-Books Worth the Money?
Beyond all the hype, are e-book readers a good deal? Are they worth the money? If so, how can you get the maximum return on your investment?
Here are six money tips for pennywise book lovers.
1. Casual readers probably shouldn't bother.
2. The books aren't as cheap as they should be.
3. Savvy readers read the classics anyway.
4. Be aware of the potential costs of buying a Kindle.
5. Be aware of the costs of the rivals.
6. And if you're thinking of buying a book readerwait!

In case anyone's interested in this--I got somebody to post a picture of the Kindle 3's Korean font here. It is not pretty. Not a pleasant reading experience at all. I'll probably still get one, since I've been drooling over it for a while now, but I doubt I'll be reading any Korean books on it unless somebody comes up with a font hack. |

Helena - thanks for that. Its funny cuz when i first clicked on your link, I thought it looked quite good. Then after reading two lines I see what you mean, its definitely not pretty. The different sizes of the hanja is kind of hard to follow! Hopefully there are other files that will look better. |
