| Okay this is kind of a joke, but this occurred to me when I was in the middle of a nearly 7 hour teaching marathon Friday. My job doesn't always seem like TEACHING in the traditional sense. Keeping the kids in line and getting them to freaking LISTEN is the most important part of the job it seems. So if you teach in a children's hagwon, what occupation does your job most resemble? |

I hated teaching KG babies.
The whole job felt like a seven foreigner pissing contest to show off who was the biggest boss ass kisser based on how well the kids lined up.
A little off topic, but if you don't want a career teaching children don't teach KG. In no way will it be a good idea for you. Do not put yourself through hell if it is not your life's desire. |

| No worries... I can't imagine anyone in their right mind who would want to be with those little KG blighters for hours on end. I teach them for one hour a day and still wonder how I cope with it. |

I was with them for three hours total per day. AHHHHH!!!!!!
They are actually not so bad except the hagwon owner and the children's parents actually expected them to behave perfectly and learn quickly.
I was with five year olds. Come ON!! Some couldn't even hold a pencil let alone be expected to write in English. Then I would hear stuff from my boss like "Why can't you teach them to sing by reading the lyrics." When I disagreed with her she actually wasted about twenty minutes of my time telling me that I am not doing my job properly if I can't teach five year olds to read a new song every week. F*CK!!!
Just amusing kids this age is simple. Getting them to line up like soldiers and spit out English is cruelty for the children and the foreign teacher. |

| My first experience with kindy wasnt half bad. The classes were only 30 minutes, and we had korean teachers that jept the kids in check. So it was fun to teach them. We had fun, played games, sang songs and the kids learned a lot. Now though, I have 2 45 minute kg classes a week, just me and the class has 24 students. They are nice kids, abut I hate that class. They just dont listen. |

| I have two kindy classes, each for 80 minutes/day. In all I spend almost 4 hours a day (including lunch) with these little vermin. One of the classes is 4-5 years old, the other is graduating this year. It's so emotionally and physically draining trying to teach these kids English, especially the younger ones. They just don't seem to grasp that I don't grasp that I don't understand the language that they're talking to me in. It's frustrating for both parties involved! |

Interesting set of choices Easy E!!
For me, having been a teacher back home (teaching grades 2-4) I find this is nothing new.
Kids are kids. The only major difference was the language issue.
Except for that its just teaching. |

My favorite levels are grades 5-7.
I find these kids are still enough like children that they can be silly.
They have enough hormones running through them that the boys are fairly quiet aroung girls and the other way around.
They also have enough maturity to do what you tell them to do, and can pay attention for more than three minutes. |

I still can't understand why so many people hate teaching Kinder classes. When I taught them, they were my favorite class. They were much better behaved than other classes, they learned much faster and were more interested in learning. And they were simply more fun.
The other two teachers at my school had the same feelings.
It's the elementary school kids that I dislike teaching. They've learned to be rude by then and try disrupting the class on purpose.
I teach only elementary now, and I miss the little ones! |

Perhaps you had a good director.
I must admit that teaching the young kids was fun, although four or three years old is pushing the limit, but unrealistic expectations from the parents ruined it. As I said:

There is also a big BIG difference between Korean 7 years old and Korean 4 or 5 years old.
Very young kids also have trouble with snot blowing, peeing, ddonging etc. I don't deal with that stuff. I repeat that unless you really love babysitting and mothering don't teach KG. |

Definantly entertainer but it makes sense....
For youngins to learn you have to keep them interested so entertaining is the key(and I'm talking about a dinner party).
If you are dry and boring they will lose interest very quickly. |
