|
|
I just saw an Archos 9 in the store yesterday, it was about 300,000 won. I-m looking at getting a new laptop. I want a small laptop, I don-t need a lot of gadgets, so I thought that a netbook would work, then I saw the archos 9.
Anyone know about this? WOuld you recommend it? |

What kind of things do you want to do with your machine?
Are you just interested in basic stuff like word processing and surfing the web?
Have any desire to turn it into a media center comp, like hooking it up to a tv and watching movies/shows or anything like that? |

I wouldn't buy the Archos 9. From what this review says, it doesn't seem that the tablet does anything well.
Despite some techies claiming that tablets are the future of portable computing I still prefer to have a keyboard and tend to see the touchscreen as more of a novelty than a necessity for a computer. I've been satisfied with my ASUS netbook. It's small and light; and now that I'm running Ubuntu rather than Windows it's pretty speedy even with the Atom processor. |

I don't need media galore. I don't have a tv, ipod, mp3 or anything like that. Just simple stuff
Excel
Word
Power Point
watch movies
listen to the online radio stations
PDF
internet
That being said, it needs to be my main computer. |

a nicer netbook would be more than enough for you. i have a newer asus eee pc (http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/asus-eee-pc-1201pn.aspx) and i quite like it. the specs are comparable to a low to mid-range laptop. |

Funny, that's the one we were looking at last night. It's about $400 in the US, though I've been told I've had to upgrade the ram from 1 to 2., so maybe $450. |

Then you don't want a netbook!!
Get a thin and light laptop, maybe 14''-15'', which has more power, bigger hard drive for downloading, and a larger screen to enjoy movies and TV shows more.
Really. A netbook as a main computer would be tedious. |

The 1201N/PN EEE's are barely netbooks. At 12 inches, typing on it is fine and the screen is quite reasonably sized. |

Even for the simple stuff I use it for? I already have a 15 inch screen, I'd like a much smaller one, like 10 inches. |

I've had an MSI Wind for two years. It has been a great hog in its day. It was 700K with upgraded RAM (2GB) back in '08. A complete rip off, in todays terms, but you can get old units of that same one for under 400K now. It randomly blue screens from time to time (even after fresh W7 install), and I broke the head phone jack, so it is starting to get on my nerves. It's still limping along just fine though.

I'm leaning towards this as my next laptop. I'm just waiting to see if a decent Android slate comes out. The Samsung Tab looks great, but it has a cell phone in it, which I definitely don't want or need. |

Isn't a larger screen more desirable than a smaller one? Isn't it better to watch a movie on a 15'' screen than a 10'' screen.
People are spending thousands of dollars on large-screen 50'' TV's these days..........why don't they just stick with their little 14'' portable TV's?
When you buy a netbook the two things you should buy it for are the extreme portability and the battery life.......if you don't really need those two things that much....then get a laptop.
A thin and light 14'' laptop can be less than 5lbs.....if you can't carry around something just 5lbs of weight.......I suggest you hit the gym! Not you personally OP.....just jesting in general... |

Hi,
Just my two cents here, but I would recommend NOT getting a netbook as your primary computer. My wife has a 10" Dell Mini, which got pretty good reviews and a we bought it at a good price. However, its slow to upload photos, doing spreadsheets on the small screen gets on her nerves and its not as easy to word process. Adding on to that, it won't connect to our printer. She ends up using my computer more often than not for work.
I personally think a 13" computer is the perfect size. Light, nice screen size, good power and v | |
