So I want to get the ipad just so i have something small and portable with internet access to be able to work on documents and email. If i buy a 3g Ipad from america will it work in korea? and vice-versa? I dont really wanna buy it if its useless in america.

1) An iPad from America will not work on 3g networks in Korea (unless you count roaming).
2) You cannot buy an iPad in Korea.

Phones you can pay an extra aprox 300,000 to have registered and assigned a special ID number in Korea. I haven't heard of anyone doing this with an iPad but it may be possible. Anyone know more info about this?

One option would be to possibly look into one of those "Eggs" that give you a portable wifi hotspot (with monthly data contract). Then just get the wifi iPad. I am not sure if that is possible. Plus, you have to carry around another cell phone sized device, which kind of hampers the whole portability selling point of the iPad.

There are tons of hotspots in Korea. You can almost always find one to connect to in a cafe or somewhere nearby if you live in a major city.
