|
|
Just a general question about how you guys went about refusing offers? I just landed a job in Suwon that I really like and another school that I also interviewed with sent me an offer a few days after I sent out my paper work with the other school. The last time I refused an offer, the school liked me so much that they offered me the job again in hopes that I would take it. I felt bad having to say no again. Maybe I'm not being forceful enough? I pretty much said 'thank you for considering me, but I think I'm going to have to refuse your offer'. What did you guys end up saying to those offers you had to turn down? I feel like such a jerk for wasting their time and turning them down. |

Tell them why you declined and be truthful about it. Even if it's something as seemingly minor as location, let the school know. |

Agree with above...
Just be honest in the reason(s), and thank them for their time. |

Just playing devil's advocate here, but why give a damn? It's a labour market, and employers would generally think nothing of letting you down at the last minute if a better CV landed on their desk. |

Exactly. The job market is quite tight right now, and if that happened to the OP, it would be nice to have 1 or 2 potential employers to fall back on rather than needlessly burning bridges. |

Never, ever burn a bridge. What's the point in doing that? No benefit for you unless they really treated you extremely poorly and telling them off is the only way you will be able to look at yourself in the mirror with any self respect.
Be honest - you got a better offer, more vacation, less hours, better location, nicer apartment, etc.
In fact, by doing so, you are helping all teachers because it might make some employers up their ante if it happens enough times. |
