just had my renewal medical check up.

i wasn't really thinking and when the doctor asked if i wanted a chest xray i just said "oh i probably dont need that." i dont remember getting one when i joined smoe, but i could be wrong about that of course.

so what's going to happen if i turn in an incomplete medical? i dont have time to take another one before the 'deadline'

didnt you always need that?

In all 4 of my previous checks they did it. It is the TB test. You should have had it before.

like i said, wasn't thinking...but what's done is done.

just hoping the only thing SMOE cares about is the hiv/tpbe since that's what they expressly mention must be included (again and again)

Maybe I'm not remembering this correctly from other posts but I thought you could now turn down a repeat xray?

Getting your chest x-rayed every year for nothing when a skin test is available is ridiculous.

that's kind of why I said no. I wasn't thinking about the TB test and when he said "chest x-ray" I said "uh, I probably dont need that."

They're really conservative with dental xrays here but I guess that's where it ends.

Anyway, I'm pretty much convinced that smoe only cares about HIV and the drug test so I'll see what they say when I turn it in. Hopefully the worst that can happen is I'm out another 50,000 won and I take the test again

It is stupid. The chest x-ray only shows TB if you've got an advanced case. Isn't it better to check with the skin test before it gets serious? It's less invasive (breast cancer, anyone?) and far more accurate. It could take years for the symptoms to manifest.

yes the chest xray every year is one of my fears of living in asia. The machines are not exactly the best and I am sure they don't use the lowest kvp (ma) possible. This test more than once every 5 years or so is useless.

Yeah, it would be interesting to see if you could get a doctor to sign a waiver of some sort for you - no signs of TB and recommending against another unnecessary chest xray. I think people should start raising objections on it - it's not medically warranted and possibly harmful. There are issues with the HIV test as have been discussed on the board here but at least it's not potentially dangerous.

A second thought would be to agree to a skin test so you're not outright refusing to be tested.
