Hi, hopefully someone can help me.I'm due to start work in a private school at the end of this month. I have to return home for a family wedding at the end of Nov (there is no no way I can miss it). My contract states I need to have worked three months before I can take time off and then I have to give a months notice. I've been offered public work in Osan also and am considering taking it Confused purely as it may be easier to get time off. Also, has anyone worked in Osan?Thank you!

Your heading is a bit confusing. Is this an international school or a public school?

If it's a public school it really really depends how much your school likes you. But even then its really hard to take time off during the regular school year. You can probably claim you were deathly sick but you'll have to find a doctor that'll write a fake note.

Yes it says so in the contract plus when you renew you get bonus vacation days. Though in practice, they're really hard to use.

I had a in person Peace corps interview back in the states but I couldn't get time off from school to go back. So I had to pass even though my school was really sympathetic about it and I had 5 left over vacation days

In all honosty, you would be better off declining both jobs and just wait until after the wedding. Contractually, you are only allowed to take vacation during school holidays. You would be getting off to a bitter start even for asking for vacation that early.

I would tell them before you get hired. It is extremely unusual in both private and public schools to take a week off after your first month or two, unless it is during regularly scheduled vacation time. Maybe if you have a longer relationship with them you could make it happen but unless you clear it with the new employer before you are hired (make sure you get it in writing) i will bet you every won I have saved in Korea that the school (whether it be public or private) will tell you to f off.

Better attend to your family business than come out here and expect to be given timeoff. Not happening.
