A perfect example of why everyone says not to buy your ticket until after you get your visa.
The people at the local consulate were kind enough to expedite my visa so I could be on time for my Sep 1st start date. However they kinda messed up and reversed the month and year so now I have to go home a couple months after I get there.
As I'd really not want to be the strangeo who is a few days or maybe a week late to the job has anyone had something like this before?
Obviously I'd just call immigration but the package arrived on Friday (sat Korea) and I cant just call 1345. Although I do have the international number but it wont work for another day or so.
I'm ready to just hop the next flight, but was wondering if the 1-year overrode the date or if it was other way around.
Think Checks - even if they put in numbers most banks uphold the longhand for actual value.
Discuss:
Go now and be early but possible long crapstorm at immigration
Or
Stick around and be at least a week late for a PS job (my first).
Regardless at least I didnt buy my ticket in advance. |

There is no mistake.
The expiration date of your visa means you have to enter Korea by that date. Once here, you apply for an ARC which will give you a sojourn of 1 year (as shown on your visa). The date on the ARC is when you will have to leave Korea, not the date on your visa.
Next time, it might be a good idea to learn what something means before claiming it was screwed up. |

Don't panic!
Your visa is valid for 3 months to ENTER Korea.
Once you arrive you sojourn is valid for 1 year.
Come on over and welcome. Hope this helps. |

That could be the difference but all my other visas had the date of entry open for 1 year also.
In addition the recruiter told me to wait until immigration opens for business.
You all are probably right, first time for everything.
EDIT:
"By first time for everything" I mean that its my first time being confused like this. It all makes sense now, but man it was strange after looking at the ones I had previously.
On a side note is it standard for public schools to have single entry default? Or is it just luck of the draw?

Ugh, I wish the Toronto consulate would get on the expedite bandwagon, I'm arriving late.
Anyway, regardless of whether the mistake is actually a mistake, I would assume that immigration in Korea could fix it without you having to leave Korea mid-contract. Might be worth it to go to your local office and ask them, when you get there. |

Correct.
... unless your visa is cancelled or your extend your stay, which will mean you get a new date written on the back of your ARC. The ARC date is the key. |

Visa governs your ability to enter the country.
Your ARC governs your sojourn in the country (status of stay).
Unless the OP is American AND was granted a multi-entry visa the usual expiry is 90 days from issue.
The length of sojourn is indicated on the visa for information purposes but the ARC determines when you have to leave and your status in the country.

Update:
Turns out they did screw up royaly with my visa.
The date of final entry misprint was just my mistake as many have stated, but...
They just changed the E-2 visa ratings and what you need to get them.
E21 is for private and E22 is for public institutions.
Mine should have been default multiple entry and for a public institution and they gave me the private version single entry permit. (hance the strange date of final entry)
Regardless I made it into country and now have to fix it.
Just glad I passed on the mistakes so the school board ahd time to knwo and prepare for fixing my visa when it gets converted to an ARC.
And yes I am American and have never recieved anything but multiple entry visas. (until now) |
