I have been in my new apartment for one week and have discovered a bunch of mold in the bathroom. A few days ago I noticed some on the wall and my co teacher helped me get some cleaner from emart. After cleaning the spot on the wall, I found a mold farm on top of my bathroom ceiling and under the tub. It is well beyond a do it yourself job. Wondering what the best course of action is. My school is a public school and is loaded, but seems pretty cheap about little things.

Buy a bottle of bleach for 800 won and clean it up.

Yep, mix bleach and water in a spray bottle and spray regularly. Keep the window open, but close the door. You will notice your bathroom get increasingly white and fresher a week later. Most dark mold spots and that musty odor will disappear. Bleach is not a rock bottom 800 won like in America for a gallon jug, but it's still affordable to use.

I got some mold cleaner and a toothbrush. Doing this probably takes longer, but the tiles and grout look cleaner and it hasn't been moldy for quite some time. I found a mold farm behind my toiled but managed to scrub most of it off the wall and toilet.

Just talk to it nicely and try to understand its point of view.

Be NICE to it? W slash E.

Do it the Mr. Bean way. But with Bleach instead of Paint. Cover everything up that needs covering, with newspaper, and then BLOW UP the bottle with a firework or something.

Mold free in seconds.

The Mr. Bean way sounds promising. Just make sure no one's trying to get a hat or something in the bathroom.

Do it the local way- Wallpaper over it and hope that does the trick.

I've read somewhere that it's good to include a bit of liquid soap in the bleach/water mixture. It helps to really cover/coat all the mold and makes sure none survives due to air bubbles or an uneven surface.

You could paint over it as well.

I had similar mold problems, but I've contained it with the following:

1) Bleach / Water solution = spray it on affected areas once a month (as suggested)

2) http://english.gmarket.co.kr/challenge/neo_goods/goods.asp?goodscode=132147555

- Hands down, the SMARTEST investment I've made since I've been here in Korea ... sure, you have to empty it out every day and a half, but WELL worth it! (i actually bought it for 40k, as opposed to the posted 89k)

3) Thirsty Hippo (http://www.oxy.co.kr/eng/product/hama/ha_sub01.asp)

- very useful for those enclosed areas such as closets and dressers; you have to replace them once every 6 weeks or so (non-rainy season) and once every 2-3 weeks (rainy season)

I will have to look into those hippo things. Some people did not read very carefully when I said it is not a do it yourself problem. My bathroom has a little entrance in the ceiling. It is covered with mold inside. Filling a 8x8 area. I don't think it could support my weight, so I can't clean it. It is really terrible. When I first moved in I thought there was some problem with the ventilation on my floor and that my neighbor must be a smoker. Nope, just a field of mold above me head. Also, I didn't cross the world to learn how to maintain property. I didn't complain when it was a bit on the wall, but the situation has escalated.

I still think a bleach bomb would do it.

Whenever I get problems I tend to call the building... man. Which is just a number scattered around the building and he tends to do everything necessary.

However, I have a fluent Korean speaking friend who can do the dirty work for me (the call, not the problem solving)

So maybe you have a landlord-type-guy hanging around to help you.

I have something that looks like mold growing, well, down there. Do you suppose using bleach or talking to it (like Caniff said to) will help at all? I've found that talking to it works when I need to use it. Well, not the mold
