Hi guys I want to rent a car and bomb around Korea for 9 days during Chusock. I have an Ontario Drivers License from Canada. Would it be considered an International Drivers License?
If not how do I get one and how long does it take?
Appreciate all the help

Does anyone have any experience in renting a car here? Has anyone applied for an international license in South Korea? |

An international license is obtained back in your home country.
It is also referred to as an International Driving Permit "IDP".
It is a multinational booklet that translates your license into different languages, is good for one year and MUST accompany your driving license in order to be legal.
In most provinces in Canada you get it from the local CAA office.
Your Canadian license by itself it NOT an international permit.
Your choices would be to get a Korean license or send an application to your CAA back home.

You will most likely not be able to apply for an international driver's license in Korea...it can be done over the phone/mail/fax/internet with your home country, but not before Chuseok.
There actually is no such thing as an international driver's license...there is an international driving permit that goes with your driver's license, but essentially all it is is a translation of your driver's license.
The easiest solution would be to go get a Korean driver's license....or to call the car rental company and see if they will rent to you on just your Canadian license...they may.
I have rented a car twice (I have a Korean license) and kumhorent.com had the best prices...they have a membership program that is free and gives you deep discounts.
By the way....you can probably damn near buy a car for the price of renting one for 9 days....we paid 700,000 for ours, but you can get them for 500,000 no problem. Check the Buy/Sell/Trade forum. |
