I've observed that home decorating/furnishings in Korea are unreasonably expensive and go out-of-date quickly: wardrobes, bed linen, curtains, DIY supplies, etc. Why is that? Is it b/c of import restrictions? If just one fully-functional IKEA store was opened in Seoul, all these expensive mom & pop interior decoration shops would go under. I'm not talking about that lousely excuse for an Ikea store up north of Seoul. Why can't the government open up this market to foreign competition? How can they get away with ignoring the WTO and their various free trade agreements?
