I got a Woori expat card since I will be travelling in ASia. According to the people at the bank and the leaflet they gave me, it's supposed to work abroad. Yet a guy in our office says that it only works for Koreans abroad. Anyone know if they've changed it? Will it work abroad for me?

If it will, any idea if it will work like a regular ATM or a cash advance?

I've called, Woori says yes, but I'd like to hear from other weigukuns if this is true or not.
Thanks

Is it the purple card? If so, then yes, it should work.

I'd be sure to take another card from home as well though, or cash/traveler's checks as a back-up if you no longer have a bank account at home....you can never fully trust what the K-banks tell you...not that they're lying, just that they're making a mistake.

Sorry...I read your post wrong...the purple card is KEB.

No, it's like an organish colour. I went to KEB and would have to make them the bank I use to send money abroad. I already changed from KB star to Woori and don't want to have to change again.

I'll be taking cash and traveller's cheques as well, but wish I knew if Woori Expat card worked abroad.

It stinks that you can only use one bank for sending money abroad.

I guess I'll have to have my husband open an account at KEB when he gets here.

I'd suggest checking to see if there's a daily limit on your card.

I used my global Woori card (not sure if it's the same one you're describing) while traveling last year and came to find out that it had a daily limit of 50,000 Won. Naturally no one at the bank had informed me of this when I got the card.

Ok, great. Thanks for telling me. Glad I found out now.

I have a normal Woori V check card and it worked when I was in Taiwan...

If it's the expat card you got, I think it was specifically designed for using abroad. The person in your office sounds a little odd...why would the card only work for Koreans? It's an expat card...Koreans can't get it, they get a different card...

The guy in my office tried it abroad and it didn't work. He's been here for nearly a decade and said that only KEB worked abroad. Another poster here says that it DOES work, but you can only take out about 50 bucks a day.

I have 2 woori ATM cards. Both say international. One works abroad the other does NOT. The one that does work abroad has a daily limit of 500k won.

My woori VISA card did work abroad as a visa card but I could NOT access my bank account or get ATM cash advances on it (had to go to the bank desk).

BEST bet is take enough cash to get you through and TEST your card abroad.
DO NOT depend on it as your sole source of funds until you have confirmed by actual use that it works abroad.

Really? You can do that? I was told you can only use one bank to withdraw money abroad. I'm goin to try Woori and my husband will get KEB, hoepfully one of those will work.

I got an international visa card from IBK bank and took it to South Africa. It didn't work at the car rental shop but did at my hotel. I would call ahead if at all possible to where you will be staying. The rental car place told me to call my bank in Korea....ha ha ha ha ha...i'm still laughing at that one.

Listening to people talk to Korean banks can be funny. My friend was on the phone and was, sarcastically, telling them , that having to click on three links to get to the contact page was very helpful. You could have cut the sarcasm with a knife. They didn't get it though.

For the record I tried it in 5 SE ASian countries and it didn't work in any of them. I've since then switched to KEB.
