|

I need to get a trim and reshaping of my hair. Are there any good places in Seoul with hairdressers who can be trusted to cut naturally wavy, layered hair? I went to someone in Sinchon once and got a great haircut but unfortunately can't remember where that was. I am too afraid to try in my small town. I am afraid I will end up with either a mullet or with butchered layers. Any suggestions appreciated. |

Johnny at Hair and Joy in Hongdae has crafted a cut to specifically compliment wavy hair. All you have to tell him is that you want your long layers shaped up and the "wavy-hair cut." Actually, it was only recently I was made aware there was such a thing. After my last cut with him, I was looking in the mirror amazed at how my waves sprung to life without being weighed down and he said, "Yeah, I gave you the cut for wavy hair." He speaks very good English, trained in London (I think he said, maybe he just lived there), and has a heavy base of "foreigner" clientele so he is well seasoned in working with different textures.
I've also had a cut by Lucy at Hair and Joy and she was great too. However, she (or anyone else for the matter), did not intuit my need for a wavy-tailored cut like Johnny did, so what can I say. I'm a devotee.
02-363-4253 is their number. To get there: Line 2 to Hongik Univ. Exit 4. When you reach the top of the stairs proceed straight and go to the corner (you will see some cement steps and a big building on your right). At the corner, turn right. Walk 30 feet or so and you will be making the first left. You will see a triangular shaped building that houses a seafood restaurant on the main floor. Hair and Joy is next to it (kind of behind). It will be the darker building on your right. Take the stairs to the 3rd floor. If you are looking down the street with the eye glass shop (it has a big white sign near the door), you've gone one street too far. |

Family hair in Itaewon has good prices, they know how to cut any kind of hair, and they are good with color. For the first time ever here in Korea, I have walked out of the salon with my preferred medium blonde color instead of a wierd straw color.
While I was there, a female army officer who was black was getting the works with extensions, nails, eyelash dye, everything. She'd been there all day and was eating her lunch when I walked in. Someone else came in to have his braids redone, and several people were in and out for haircuts. I'm pretty sure that they do everything.
I was referred there by a friend of mine who has long curly hair that she usually straightens. |

for Johnny at Hair, do I need to make an appointment? Or can I just walk in? Also, how much will the cut cost? |

Leechard Pro Hair Gangnam Exit 7 down a couple blocks. Great salon with very friendly staff, free food n drinks, 16,000 for men. No reservations.
I have wavey, layered hair and get mine cut by 이동숙. She doesn't know a lot of English but she gives an awesome cut. |
