Hi.
So I am on my second year here.
I am American.
Last year I did not do the exempt tax America thing because the IRS never sent my residency certificate thing... and never answered my calls...
I got fed up on it, and gave up on it. So last year I guess I just payed Korean taxes.
Question is. Can I try to get the cert again even though I was in Korea all last year? Is there anyway to get any of those taxes back when I leave?
Like... does the tax exempt thing just let you keep that money up front, and with out it you can just get it all back at the end?
thanks for any info, my co's are no help and the IRS is hopeless as well. |

Some companies and government offices will do your taxes for you, and give you your return around June, but I'm guessing yours didn't. Its rumored that many shady companies get your returns and not hand them over to you, so be weary about that.
You can go yourself to any one of the tax offices in the month of May with all your pay stubs and they will take care of it fairly quickly. For some reason I think you can only go in May of the following tax year to file for a return. Give them a call. NTS Foreigner help line 1588-0560.
