EPIChungnam (Public School Elementary) people,

When you renew, are you entitled to Severance Pay (Article 14 Section 7) on top the Renewal Allowance (Article 11 Section 3) or is it one or the other?

It would be great to hear from someone who has renewed more than a month ago and has gone through this process.

But any solid insight would be great. Wink

Don't want to go asking for something that I'm not really entitled to, but at the same time- I'm not gonna be gypped.

You can get your severance if you request it. And it's the law.

I've renewed this summer and got mine the day after end of my previous contract.

P.S.: I'm not with EPIC though. Razz

You should get your renewal allowance(bonus) WITHIN one month after.

I got mine with my severance. Razz

Don't all respond at one time... Smile

Anyone in Chungnam not think that Renewal Allowance should be paid along Severance pay if you are renewing.

These are the exact words of the contract:

Renewal Allowance (Article 11 Section 3)
For the contract renewal allowance: "Employer shall provide Employee with contract renewal allowance of 2,000,000 won after the commencement of new term."
Employees round trip airfare shall not be reinbursed by employer after employee's return to korea pursuant to the forgoing."

Severance Pay (Article 14 Section 7)
As far as the severance pay- "Employee shall be entitled to severance pay (equivalent to approximate one month's salary), upon successful completion of his/her duties"

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks for the advice- that's the first thing I did this morning when I got to school, and got an answer that didn't gel with me.

So I thought the best thing would be to figure out what has been the case for other teachers under the same contract.

After I got a few answers and PMs, I was armed with enough info to know that I was correct in thinking that the contract entitles me to both.

Sure enough, when I went back to talk to my co-teacher this evening- it was something that my co-teacher didn't know about.

After talking to some other teachers who have renewed- they didn't even know about these clauses in their contract- How? I don't know.

Hopefully, this post will help someone get what is coming to them.

Hey OP,

I don't work in your area. But I know for sure if you work for a PS, you should get both. Are you telling me your school is only giving you one type. That's a bunch of BS. Go talk to someone who knows what they're talking about. No ifs, ands or buts. The renewal allowance is there to cover your round-trip airfare. The severance is the average of your last 3 months of pay.

Good luck!
