Hello all,
I am entertaining thoughts of returning to Asia to teach, but this time Korea. I previously taught in China at the Shanghai Korean School. I hold a teaching certification from Florida, and would like to find something around 6 months. I gather that by flying in I could find the best jobs, is that still true these days?
Apart from the above question, will bringing these documents be enough:
Korean-embassy certified Degree
FBI criminal background check
sealed university transcripts
4 passport pictures
copy of my teaching certification
I am surprised at the level of paperwork that is involved in teaching in Korea, but if that's what it takes, then that is what it takes, right?
What can a seasoned (42 years old, years of verifiable experience) and certified teacher ask for in salary? I know that most schools want at least a year, but I cannot spare that much time. I am open to areas besides Seoul; Busan, Daegu, really anyplace bigger than a pumpkin patch would be fine.
Cheers in advance for any advice!

| I think you will be very hard pressed to find a job for only 6 months, but that's just my opinion. When you apply for the E-2 visa, it's for a year, so I'm sure the school will be expecting you to work for a year, or it's kind of a hassle for them to find another teacher after only 6 months. I could be wrong though. |

Flying in without a job is NOT a good idea. You will be required to have a face-to-face interview for your first E-2 visa at a Korean consulate in your home country-the US. It sounds like you have the documents in order though..just make sure all the necessary things are apostilled, etc etc.
If you're only looking for a 6-month job, in my experience you'll be restricted to going to Seoul. The only thing you can likely get is teaching SAT or TOEFL prep at a place like The Princeton Review.
Maybe others know more about short term jobs than I do though.. |
