Mongolia, unless you have some burning desire to see the Pyramids (which are amazing I concede).

Had a friend nearly die in Mongolia from a random beating and have heard the pyramids are overflowing with hawkers.

my first day in mongolia a child grabbed my leg and refused to let go until i gave him money. i didn't have any money. so i had to tickle him until he released my leg. i was scared of children for the rest of my trip. also, the diaper commercials have babies holding guns and they use ketchup as tomato sauce on pizza.

Egypt is always exciting. Been there twice, and was scared for life (as a kid) when a donkey cart taxi driver took my brother, mother and me way into some mean backstreets, and then tried to extort money from my mother (or he wouldn't take us back to the ship). A mob surrounded us kids and mom, and started shouting and trying to intimidate us. My mum wouldn't take it - and she started yelling until a British soldier came over and threatened to beat the driver with a cattle whip. Needless to say, we got our ride back to the ship - quick smart. Still the pyramids at Giza are mind boggling, and the national museum in Cairo is very special - especially the Tutan Kahmon exhibits. Luxor (the Valley of the Kings) is also worth a visit - but don't travel there on fake student cards like my girfriend and I did, that wasn't smart.

Mongolia, always wanted to go to Mongolia. Huge Taimen (cousin of trout) grow up to six feet long. Some fantastic fishing - in a country that time forgot. But fishing in Mongolia has got astronomically expensive (USA toursits pushing up prices) and govt. and guiding fees - so I guess Mongolia will have to wait.

Good luck. They're both great places.

Don't go to Mongolia if your plan to meet the ladies. There is a current movement among men in Ulangbatuur (spelling?) who have a hate on for the foriegn man. They are convinced that the Chinese and anyone else who is not Mongolian is trying to thin out the race. I kid you not. I listen to a CBC podcast (As It Happens) daily and this topic was brought up just last week. They were saying that about 3,000 men are in on this. They praise the work of Hitler and his nationalistic views and ways. I wish I were joking.

Like I said, if women hunting is part of your tour, I would say avoid the North.

Egypt's fun. There's two major hurdles, first you'll definitely need to learn Arabic. If you head out to the rural areas, the over 50 crowd won't be literate much less speak English. Second, the diet is more culturally vegetarian, they don't eat as much meat. Some cheese, lots of hommus but not much meat. You can find lamb easily, chicken's a bit harder and I never was able to find any beef there. If you can get over those two issues, the cost of living is LOW, the state subsidizes a lot.

I haven't been to Mongolia, but I hated Egypt. If you go anywhere remotely of interest, there's nothing but touts who won't leave you alone. We took a walk through a market one evening, and got 3 eff yous from stallholders for not patronising their stalls. I found service and attitudes to be poor all over the place. My uncle went a few weeks later, and experienced the same problems. He summed it up perfectly - The problem with Egypt is it's full of Egyptians.

I must add though, I went with my Korean lady, and when the service people and salesmen switched to Arabic to talk about you/prices, it was hilarious to take revenge by speaking Korean to each other!

I am pretty sure the OP isn't Chinese. Westerners are actually liked since we are viewed as a group that might help Mongolia "keep away" those ever pressing Chinese.

3K men? Wow, that's a TON! Come on dude, stop spreading paranoia.

3000 men? Isn't that like 90% of their population?

Egyptians working in tourism can speak many languages, but probably not Korean. What rude arse conmen they are in tourism, but most Egyptians don't act so ridiculously confrontational, they are cool. To get a feel for what Egypt is really like, get on the Cairo subway. Egyptians working in tourism all assumed I was German and many hate the Germans. I'm sure they hate British too for plundering their treasures to fill the British Museum so it didn't matter. I told them I was Canadian and the idiots all rudely go, "Canada Dry till' I die," but it's better than saying you from a country many Muslims believe to have declared war on Islam. I got into many arguments with drivers failing to listen and trying to change the amount as well as dirty touts on the streets. Don't go alone DIY if you are a woman as those filthy scoundrels will harass you to crazy extremes.

Egypt is probably more interesting by a long shot, but uncomfortable as hell. If it weren't for the men in white packing AK-47's, Egypt would be impossibly dangerous. Expect to pay backsheesh tips many times to the police and other people, but refuse to pay those just sitting around doing nothing and walk on. Enjoy Egypt. It's really a great adventurous journey if going DIY, but requires patience, good physical health, and nerves of steel.

Egypt. Loads to do from beaches to mountain climbs to ancient wonders; it has it all.

Even better? Petra in Jordan.
