We have to do it at our school. I think it's absolutely ridiculous and if they mentioned we had to do it in our contract before I came, I would not have signed it. We don't get paid any extra for it. I feel it's a total breach of student and teacher boundaries. Also, these kids work and study enough, we really have to call them on their time off. I've also heard other people doing it at their schools as well.

You should be getting paid to do it, same as if you were teaching in class.

If not, don't do it.

Same. It is retarded and the biggest waste of time ever. I feel weird calling kids and waking them up from their naps to ask them how their day was/how the weather is. There is zero educational value and it's 100% for the parents.

For me at least there's no teaching involved I just ask stupid questions (what time is it, what'd you do today, how's the weather, etc.).

Aye.

I do agree its incredibly pointless, but I have quite a bit of fun. Sometimes I've been locked into a state of laughter from some of the kids, and vice versa.

Compared with going home and spending 19 hours extracting and installing files onto my computer, I don't particularly mind.

I'm not paid extra either, and it wasn't mentioned either. I think it would be a good standard question to take into account when asking about a job.

The last thing I expected when I took a teaching job was to be a telemarketer. It just makes me feel like a robot and my boss knows how little I enjoy it.

I usually browse the web or read a book on my iPod or something while I do it. It's still my time though and I don't really enjoy wasting it calling some kids who aren't home and getting yelled at by their grandma in Korean.

You are doing that idotic phone teaching for free? On your time? Foolish. But hey, I'm sure that the boss will enjoy the extra money from the parents and will take a nice vacation thanks to your efforts.

I have to do it at the office for 20-25 minutes a day.

It counts towards my teaching hours...but not enough to put me at overtime.

Honestly it's making me want to pull a runner I have a lot of trouble seeing myself do it another 11 months.

Did it for a year. Never saw a problem with it. But others on staff seemed to over-react and act as if they were asked to replace Atlas. Sitting at a desk making phone calls ain't the end of the world.
