Getting conflicting information on whether they can be sent directly from me - or if they need to be sent by the University in an envelope (the University thought the second choice was strange - because I would have to pay them the postage to send it directly to Korea) - which is a bit of a hassle for them to figure out - requires more work for them.
In the past I have requested the transcripts and they send them directly to me - as 3 seperate items - not all put together in one large envelop.
I think they are supposed to be not more than 6 months old on the postal date on the envelope? I have a stack of expired ones if this is true - because I lined up another job in another country and never even needed them. (that job has failed to provide me with my work visa).
Gets expensive to do this as we all know. |

Who is asking for the transcripts?
They are no longer part of the visa processing (at K-immigration) and visa confirmation number application.
(it may be a job requirement for a PS but they can be sent by you and don't need to be direct from the uni as long as they are sealed.
(old ones are acceptable).
That said (in place of the transcripts - as of Sept 1) - you need to have your degree either:
a) Korean embassy/consulate certified (in your home country)
b) an apostille (if you are not Canadian)
c) Verified by the KCUE if you are not in your home country (unable to get an apostille or K-consulate certification).

I just sent a transcript with my apostilled degree to Korea on the 3rd. Not sure why.
Korean consulates in the States are still accepting transcripts in lieu of sending your degree.

And for the OP. I had a stack of transcripts mailed to my house two years ago that I have sent both a year ago and last week.
The six month things is for the CBC as it can change. Your transcripts are not going to change.
But as mentioned, supposedly you don't even need transcripts any more. Perhaps they're still phasing them out. |

Interesting - apparently the schools/recruiters aren't yet aware of the new rules? Anyone have a direct link to the new rules that I can show to the schools or recruiters. The consulate interview is what they need to get rid of - it is a just unnecessary and takes up too much time and money.
If these are new rules on the 1st of September - then it would take some time for schools and recruiters to update their list of requirements. |

runthegauntlet - just read the link for the Atlanta mofat office - completely different from the Chicago office.
Now how does a teacher get a notice of appointment - so they don't have to do the consulate interview?
I am now going to see if the Chicago Mofat office has updated their requirements. |

Just checked the Chicago consulate - it shows the old rules - no changes from last time.
I am going to send and email to them for clarification.
What is a letter of appointment? |

A notice of appointment comes with a public school job. You have an interview to get that position so don't need one for the consulate.
If you get a hagwon position and this is your first time, you'll more than likely have an interview. |

Good to know - but people interview for private schools/hagwons/nonpublic schools just like they do for public schools. |

Maybe some do. I certainly didn't. My first interview for a hagwon consisted of 'Do you have any questions about the school?' Seriously.
My second interview for a hagwon....ah, no interview.
My third interview and first for a public school consisted of 30 minutes of in-depth questions about a variety of classroom issues as well as questions pertaining to being in and dealing with Korea.
And that was by a higher up in the district's Ministry of Education. Slightly different. |
