I will be going to Gyeongsangnamdo during Chuseok, and plan to spend most of my time around the Changwon/Busan area. I plan to set up my tent in one spot (in an official campsite), and do day-trips from there.
Does anyone know of any campsites in the area? ie Miryang / Gimhae / Jinhae / Busan / Changwon / Masan / Gimhae etc? Obviously one can camp at Jirisan, but that is a bit far out.
Any info would be greatly appreciated! |

I have camped in Miryang before. There are tons up along the river heading towards Pyochungsa the temple in that area. There are even buses that go up towards there from the train station. Very nice area with plenty of minbak as well little folky restaurants as well. They even have big wood platforms if you want to sleep under the stars. The river is also more of a creak with plenty of swimming holes and there are trails and old roads a plenty heading off every which way into the mountains if you fancy a hike. |

If you had a car, you could easily drive into the countryside and set up near a stream or beach.
You are probably looking for more definitive locations as you may be on foot.
In and around temples are your best bet.
Andong traditional village might be a start, accessible by bus. However, this area around Daegu experiences warmer temperatures than the rest of Korea and could be a little hot this time of year.
Jirisan is located in Kyungnam-do proper. Probably where you want to start.

Just a guess. |

Thanks so much for the responses. All are good options - although my preference on this trip is still for an official campsite, simply because I don't want to have to break down my tent every day and lug it around with me on my day-trips from the campsite.
But this is Korea, and I have no doubt my tent and possessions inside it would be perfectly safe, if I left it standing while I am out on a day-trip. So wild-camping is certainly an option, in that case next to a river so that I could swim.
Any more suggestions will be welcomed! |
