So I have a large 5 room apt.

I am moving cities and jobs on sat morning.

My (ex) school is cancelling the apt contract also.

I had planned to pack and clean over cheusok, but well, I drank amoked and lay in bed watching movies and tv shows.

So I'm gonna do it tommorow and maybe a litte tonight.

BUT we all know Koreans never really deep clean a place when they move out as shamanic superstition impels the next tennents to gut the place before they refurbish and move in.

So is it really worth my while cleaning, sweeping, mopping the place?

I ahve akways deep cleaned any apt I've moved out of in Korea over the yrs, but I feel kinda lazy this time and I'm wondering if it;s worth it if the next tennant wont care anyway...

What would you do?

Judging by how the previous tenant left the apartment, just get rid of the perishable items.

If it was new/spotless when you moved in, I'd strive for that look.
But just a basic sweep and wipe down is usually enough.

You will have to remove everything that belongs to you or your employer before moving out. If you don't, YOU will probably get taxed.

I'd go for something akin to how it looked when you moved in. At least give a superficial cleaning or else your school may deduct something from your last salary for the supposed cleaning crew that they send in to clean it properly (which will likely be the secretary or a low ranking teacher, if anyone at all).

This might seem a little harsh, but how about: Showing a little respect for yourself and cleaning it the way you would like it to look if you were moving "into" the place ?

Just because its the norm, to leave the place smelling and crawling with tiny creatures from the rotting seaweed in the fridge (exaggeration of course) doesn't mean you have to leave it that way. Rolling Eyes

I would want to leave the apartment in a way that would show that even though someone else didn't respect the place, I did.

When I moved into my place it was a mess. I demanded they hire someone to scrub it. The cleaning woman came the next day and did a fantastic job. It's a studio and took HOURS to get it up to par.

Whoever got my old place hit the jackpot. I left it sparkling, with the exception of the bit of dust that was under my bed. My dustpan and swiffer were packed by then.

Do a wipe down. Don't go nuts. Just don't let it look like you threw dirt and vomit everywhere. Who DOES that?!

I have never moved into a clean place. I will leave this one a mess when I go.

About 2 months before I moved out of my last apartment I had sex on my period, my boyfriend took off the condom and threw it under my bed. I left it there for the new tenants/landlady to clean up. I would have been nicer but my landlady likes to scream and kick stray dogs.

Chances are the tenants had to deal with that.

Lols at the troll poster imagining me leaving it filthy and having no respect for myself....

I've never moved in to a clean apt yet in 6 yrs. I've always done a deep clean when i move out.

I just came to realise that whoever moves in here will gut the place and put down new wallpaper and lino anyway so what's the damned point. In fact i've had several ppl on my floor move in and out of apts and from what i'vew seen they don't bother either.

So you simple minded black and white little troll, if I KNEW someone was moving in and not refurbing or if another wayg teacher was moving in, I would do a thorough job. But when I know some adjushis are going to be ripping the lino up and papering over the wallpaper etc - well I don;t see the point,.

That all said, it's so ingrained in me to leave a place spotless that I've laready gone and done it anyway!!!

Wasted my time, but burned a few kcals I guess.... Plus I'm rewarding myself with a pitcher of ob, sushi and some cigs and a movie.

My last apartment was swept a little bit and a little bit wiped down, but clearly had not undergone a thorough cleaning.
Since I wasn't being replaced by a new teacher when I left, I didn't really bother cleaning it at all. There was no new person for me to be polite to and it wasn't really my problem.

The girl before me in my current apartment said she picked up a little, but wasn't very thorough. However, they had a cleaning lady come the morning of the day I moved in. She did a great job. I will definitely pick up and sweep before I move this time, but I do expect an adjumma to come and fix whatever I missed.

Actually, as an OT, I plan to see about having them send the cleaning lady over every few months to get the walls and corners and cracks and such. I figure it won't cost much and I'm not very good at cleaning anyway.

Does anyone else find this deeply disturbing? Especially the fact that you lived with it under your bed for 2 months before moving out. Did you know it was there or discovered it upon moving out? Why punish the new tenants? Why am I even asking......

Well it was actually closer to 4 months but I didn't want people to think I was truly disgusting.
