Ever worked at one?
How was it in general?
I know the franchises differ from director to director, but usually there are some consistancies across the chain.

Jungchul ?
Typical hagwan.
Go over the contract with a fine toothed comb (it sucks) and talk to the NET when the boss is NOT looking over his shoulder (like by e-mail or get his number and call him when he is at home). He will have nothing but praise for the place when you get the 1st call (cause the boss will be there listening).

generally - the books and system are workable (if thats what your asking).
There is a selection of books to choose from except there seems to be very little at advanced/intermediate levels. At my Hogwan, I order books from outside when I need to.
But all in all, its korea and its owned by a korean hogwan boss. Ill leave that up to your own interpretation... |

| It depends on what Jungchul you are looking at. But I have friends who work at schools in the Dongchun area and they recently found out that their schools are broke. This is surprising since Junchul is such a well known franchise. Keep in mind schools in other areas may be perfectly fine financially. |

Yeah my school is about 9 months old. They have 200 students, so that's not too bad. Last teacher left without notice as 'his Father was sick.'
To be fair the director did give me his email and he did say he really liked it there. But I have to take that with a grain of salt as he left some belongings and his PC in the apt so he could just be trying to sweetalk me as he asked me if I could mail him his stuff and his PC.
Well I met the director and she seems genuinely nice. I'll just have to go with my gut and trust my first impression of her.
She did let me alster the contract from '10 days paid vacation INCLUDING weekends' to ' 10 working days (mon - fri) NOT INCLUDING weekends' and let me write into the contract that I get Xmas week 27th - 31st off work to visit my family, so that's cool. She seems willing to show flexibility.
I have never lasted more than 6 months at a hagwan or AS programme before and I've worked for 3 of one and 1 of the latter....
So this time I'll treat it as a corporate job. Not think of myself so much as an educator but as a business partner whose main goal is to retain students. |
