I remember that SMOE uses recruiters to find teachers. I don't remember who it is though... I believe there a 2 or 3 of them, but 1 is their main recruiter.
Anyone know who to go through to go into SMOE?

Thanks.

Just left Seoul - while there I attended an orientation meeting at the S.M.O.E. offices for all the recruiting companies that were selected to recruit teachers for August 2009. I expect the information will be on the ETIS website soon. I don't have a complete list with me right now, but it does include the major players that have been recruiting for the S.M.O.E. for a number of years including the following:

Footprints Recruiting
Korea Connections
Woongjin ThinkOutside
WorkNPlay
Canadian Connections
Korvia

There are many small or part time companies that were selected as well - 15 in total I believe. Two of the smaller companies I recall offhand are B.O.P. Korea Education and PlanetESL. As in years past, teachers should choose only one recruiter - all applications go to the same source and if the S.M.O.E. receives multiple applications for the same applicant from different recruiters, the application will be automatically rejected, regardless of qualifications. The teacher contract is largely the same as last time - a few more upper level pay grades, and a direct reimbursement of 1.3 million won for the ticket to Korea rather than having the S.M.O.E. pay directly for the ticket - so if you get a cheap ticket you can save some money on the deal. The program is expanding - the S.M.O.E. is hiring around 500 teachers total for August 2009. However they don't expect to hire many teachers with minimum qualifications - they are looking for teachers with at least a B.Ed, TESL/TEFL certification or a year of experience. On-line TESL/TEFL with a minimum number of hours is acceptable- so if you don't have the requisite experience I would suggest signing up for a TESL/TEFL course as soon as possible and get it done before you arrive.

Does this apply to someone who wants to apply to SMOE and EPIK or only those applying with SMOE?

The SMOE was folded into EPIK, so if you want to apply to public schools in Seoul, you have to apply through EPIK now.
