I've run a few searches on engagement ring hunting, found some posts, but they're mostly by guys that are in price brackets WAY out of my league.
I want to find a really basic solitaire diamond ring. I was gonna go sans diamond cause the idea rubs me the wrong way, but all of my nonchalant prodding seems to indicate that at least a small diamond is necessary.
Where can I get a really barebones solitaire in Seoul?
Not a K-Girl, by the way! |

I just recently bought an engagement ring at Jonggak Station. The area is renown for their ring stores. There are a lot of stores there so just go in, ask to see their rings, and just keep track of each store's prices. They will almost always give you their cards.
It is a very basic solitaire design. 14k white gold with a diamond in the middle.
Some stores have diamonds at the ready but others have to order them. Mine took a couple of weeks to arrive but I wanted a diamond to my specifications.
Let me know if you need more information. |

That's awesome, thanks! Jonggak is up in Insa-dong, right?
What were the prices like if you don't mind my asking? You can PM if you'd rather. |

Prices in Korea are about double what you would pay in North America (due to excise taxes on jewelry, VAT (sales tax) and import duties on the gems.
IF you are looking at something under .5ct and grade of VVS2 or lower then Jonggak (south end of Insadong) is fine for looking. (prices in the 1-2 million won range).
If you want to spend the same amount of money, have a nice weekend away AND get a comparable or better ring then grab one of Cathay Pacific's "visit HK now" packages and get it in Hong Kong.
The price difference on the ring alone will pay for your weekend get-a-way.
Current HK pricing, .5ct, VVS1, brilliant, white, round stone set in white gold (solitaire) with white gold band for about 800k won. (yellow gold bands are HARD to find).
