Hello all -
I was wondering if anyone had experience with getting a student visa for the UK while in Korea?
I'm Canadian and am looking to do a 1 year Masters course next September in London. I just looked at the visa application, seems (relatively) straightforward, just a couple of questions:
1) What did you do in regards to your proof of funds bank statement? Did you get your bank in your home country to mail you the info. and if so did it arrive in an acceptable amount of time (I think I read the statement has to be less than a month old at the time of applying)?
2) In regards to the question about what I will do after the course finishes, is putting down something along the lines of "seeking employment in my home country" acceptable? I'm a little worried that they will look look at me as having no "ties" to Canada since I've been away for a few years.
Any advice/experiences you could share would be appreciated. Thanks. |

seeing as no one else has replied i thought i might try and offer some advice!
i haven't applied from here because i'm british !!! but to be honest i think all they really care about is that you are going to leave the u.k after you have finished.
i just read an article on the bbc a few days ago about how many students have disappeared after they finished there courses. really seeing as you are from canada i doubt you are in a high risk category for this to happen. plus i assume this is a post grad course too. so i don't think they will worry about you too much.
i wouldn't worry about the fact you haven't been in canada for a while. it's none of their business where you chose to live.
as for the bank stuff i'm not sure. can you not just demand one from home or print a statement from internet banking?
here is the bbc article for your amusement

sorry to go off topic but - as a Brit myself - I really do find the staggering number of foreign students in London disturbing. Its no wonder that masses of them go undetected especially those from the far east.
Personally I think immigration has to take some responsibility for this as I know Koreans alone receive 6 months right off of the plane no questions asked which I find absurd to be honest. At least the states and australia have some kind fo pre-internet registration required.
And the idea that we only receive the ebst of the best is ridiculous and about 10 years outdated.
My brother is doing his UCAS form right now and he was told in no uncertain terms that unless the students were applying to one of the big London 3 then go elsewhere as foreigners now completely dominate the London student backdrop. I attended SOAS to study Korean part time and i hardly heard another English accent in the building, honestly you really feel like a foreigner in London nowadays. |

The British Council in Seoul is your port of call. Google search will bring it to the top of the page. |
