|
|
Hi
This is not my first time leaving Korea. The last time I left they reimbursed me when they saw me receipt and before I left the country. This time my school is telling me to contact them once I have arrived back home and then they will pay it to my Aussie account. I am little worried about this. I am not signing a new contract and am going for home for good (probably).
Has anyone experienced this before? Should I be firm and demand I get reimbursed before I leave? |

Definitely don't let them do it.
But use a logical tactic in saying that exchange rates are really horrible and that they will be losing quite a bit of money by sending it to your home account. |

Sounds like BS. Check your contract and see what it says, then ask them to buy the ticket. If they don't start harassing the local labor broad. |

That's how my public school did it with the teacher I replaced and how they will do it for me. The district office refunds your deposit and airfare about 1 month later, but I don't like that way of doing it. Most of these contracts don't specify exactly when this money is to be paid other than saying salary is paid on the 25th of each month. |

I'd personally never do that.
I'd find out the date they want to pay, then go to immigration with my return home plane tkts and arrange for a 2 week (or however long you need) extension of leave. Say I need to sell a few thigs I can't take home, clean my apt, pack, say good bye to people, run some errands etc. That way I'm here in the country to make sure I get the money. If they don't pay it, you can go to the labour office file a claim and with that in hand the immigration office will give you another extension so you can follow through with the claim. |

Actually it's a public school in Gyeonggi. Absolutely. I would not be asking this question if it was a hagwon.
But has anyone been told this by their school? Public or private? |

PS are OK. Just give them your bank account number and bank address on a money transfer form (get it from local bank). Make sure you get your co-teacher's and district supervisor's email/cell numbers.
They'll deduct the international xfer fee deducted from your airfare.
SMOE paid my severence and airfare after 10 days (legal) but my last EPIK private school paid me everything 3 days before contract end.
Good luck at home. Enjoy your cash. |

I've never heard of this before and I would try to get the money before I leave. |

Make sure it's in your home account, not your Korean one. I've had a few friends working in a PS who have gotten their money deposited in their Korean account after they have left with no way to get it. |
