Well which are you?

Me, I smoke one or two in the evenings after work and at bars if I'm drinking with friends. Probably about a pack a week.

That's qualifies me as a part time smoker.

A full time smoker smokes all day long whenever they feel the need.

A pack a week? In my book that would make you a tolerant non-smoker (you know, one that doesn't use words like "disgusting", "filthy" or "pig" in their first post in a debate).

Which means that I smoke as much in two days as you do in a month Very Happy unless it's the weekend, when I smoke as much as you do in Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter Shocked

Now I'm trying to cut down by a cigarette or two a day.

FWIW, I put myself on the top of your poll. Surprised to see that 60% here are non-smokers, I believe that should also be the share of North American ET's here. That one non-smoking bar in Itaewon must be filled to the rafters night by night!

Next question should be "Are you a smoker in Korea but a non-smoker at home?"

I just don't take them to work, thus I can't smoke them. Get by fine. Out of sight, out of mind. I think I told alittle porky pie actually. I guess I smoke between 3 - 4 an evening, truth be told. on a weekend with smoking friends, I guess that would go up to 10 - 15 per night out.

Still I feel I have more energy doing it that way since I cut back from being a full time 'pig' with a 'disgusting' habbit that should be 'outlawed' 'outright' lol.! Gotta love those guys though, they do make you chuckle, even more so when they start getting their knickers in a twist.

In a similar way (not bringing cigarettes to work etc.) I've come to enjoy long distance flights, only to test myself if I can still handle 10-16 hours without a smoke (I can), but also because the kick of the next cigarette after the flight (and nowadays, possibly after leaving the airport building) is soooo good Rolling Eyes

Your way is better though; limiting your intake should actually give you more pleasure. Most of my friends here do not smoke (and many of them never did), some complain occasionally but then they're all alcoholics (=long-term Korea residents with a regular job) so they're not on firm ground for moreal lectures.

How about a poll about "how much do you drink"?

For me it's what I call a 'psychological bridge.' When I get home, take off my work clothes, flop on the sofa, a beer and a smoke help ease the transition from work LDJS to my own person LDJS. And then in the evenings when I watch a dvd, I have a few beers. I have a few beers with friends at the weekend. I emphticallly cannot have a beer or two without a cig or two. I've tried it and it's harder and more frustrating than the new 500 won deposit system at the Seoul subway.

Re the drinking poll - Go for it. I'll be your first respondant!

I just lie face down on my bed for 18 seconds to transition from work to home.

Does anybody else get applause in Korea when they claim they don't smoke when asked by a Korean?

Wait until you've been doing the same job (not neccessarily at the same place) for 6 years!

multiply your 18 seconds by ______________ and add at least 2 psycoactive substances!

Very Happy Laughing Cool

The bed trick wouldn't work for me because my first instinct would be to clean up the bed unless I want to stab myself to death with a wire coathanger or suffocate in a plastic bag (I've been using Cleantopia for my laundry needs for the past 2 years and have enough hangers and plastic wraps to last until the end of Fall).

That and a very high likelyhood that I'd fall asleep and miss my time off. 18 horizontal seconds is more than I need to do that. My Korean colleagues can sleep through the entire lunch break with their face on the keyboard.

I'll pause on the alco-poll because I haven't worked out the questions yet. In any case, alcohol and drugs seem to be a lot less controversial than smoking, seeing that one is positivel encouraged and the other is highly restricted.

But I like where this is going... Cool

That's rare, most people object to the odour of the smoke.

What's your position on a good cigar?

Well, smoke is the proper word.

There are some cigars that have a nice aroma, though I would only care to get a passing whiff.

My grandfather would sometimes sit outside and smoke pipe tobacco, a very enticing aroma, again only a whiff sufficed.
