Anybody tried this swill yet? It's so choice!

I had sworn off of Korean beer after going through the brief and finite set of offerings that gave me instant headaches and tasted like chemicals and froth.

At best, I would drink Asahi and whatever Euro/Australian thing I could find at premium prices. Those purchases were rare as the prices were exorbitant. (Really? That much for decent Japanese beer? So close, yet so far away!)

Anyways, I found this D Dry Finish thing from Hite. It's so much better than the Max Special Edition Hops thing. Granted, it can't hold a candle to a small batch ale or micro-brew. But, I'll be darned if it doesn't go head to head with America's most notorious crap beers (Old Style, Hamm's, PBR, Natty Light).

Congrats, Korea. You've moved from the undrinkable to the low end of watery Milwaukee's bad boys. I guess I might have to drink beer more often. It's either that or soju (and soju has never impressed me).

Thoughts?

Haven't seen it, but thanks for the tip. I'm drinking two Samuel Adams right now (3900w each, thank you very much), I would kill for a drinkable swill.

Max from the glass bottles is drinkable, imo, but my soju addled brain might just be deluding itself into believing that.

I'll keep my eyes peeled. If it's choice then it's a must-try!

I was a craft beer aficionado back when. I've long since lost the ability to discern much difference between Korean beers, its mostly about social function.

Last night it was somaek: half-fill a paper cup with soju & top it up with any beer at hand. That was with the newly elected superintendent of education for my province.

Taste, bleh, but an interesting time.

I usually spurn somaek and just drink a corresponding amount of soju to their somaek. Makes for a (paradoxically) lesser hang over, and makes me look like a hard man.

I had some in Homeplus the other day. I thought it was decent. Girl was cute who was doing samples so I bought a sixer. it was 7,000won

While I only had a finger sized portion it seemed to me like the classic Rainier beer. But it wasn't completely chilled so when I finally drink a brain grenade I hope it is similar.

My thoughts...

Yes Korean beer sucks. But moving to the bad boys of Milwaukee swill? Hooray. Granted, I was born in Milwaukee, so perhaps this new beer will remind me of home.

Try making some military friends. My buddy brings me Lienies (yes, Leinenkugels, from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin) and Sam Adams (the Bahston stuff) from time to time, and it's almost cheaper than what it costs in the US.

Is there any sort of open letter to the Korean nation I can write complaining about their beer? They have hands down the worst beer in the world. Not that I've never had a bad beer in the US (Mountain Creek anyone?), but at least there is a choice. Good beer does not exist here.*

(* KaBrew makes some decent stuff, but they aren't even allowed to sell it. I guess because people would then learn how terrible their beer actually is)

I drank a six-pack of Hite D a few nights ago, and I have to say it wasn't as crap as the other Korean beers. So that makes it a clear winner in my books.

I like it too. Has a clean taste and finish, a hint of spice somewhere but very fleeting. Best really chilled. Might not be good on a warmer side.

What is the price of this new beer compared with the regular Hite/Cass stuff?

I wasn't impressed.
Yes, it is better than normal Hite but compared to dry beers back in England or Australia it doesn't hold a candle.

You had me at better than normal Hite.

I'll take it, but i havent seen it at any local stores. I guess for now it's only at the big stores...in which case I'll just spring for Oettinger or Von Raven or whatever.
