Sorry to reopen the Taco Bell issue. I was in Thailand all Summer and missed the opening (and missed the lines). So I finally got back to Korea and went to the Taco Bell today, and I got a really tiny burrito. I have been to Taco Bell maybe 1000 times in my life and never been disappointed and never got a burrito like I got today. It was about the size of a McDonalds breakfast burrito. It was supposed to be a Fiesta Chicken Burrito, but it was all tortilla with a little rice sprinkled on and rolled up. Again, I am a huge fan of Taco Bell and been there 1000 times and never saw anything like this.
Anyone else notice the burritos are really tiny compared to Taco Bells in America? I have even gotten on base a couple of times and those burritos are just like America, so something is definitely different about the one in Itaewon. I thought maybe in America they just put too much stuff inside and in Itaewon they are most strict about portion. But since I have had 1000 burritos, I don't think that is the case.
I know the treads go on and on about how Taco Bell is not real Mexican food. So let's just take that as a given...
I know there are other better Mexican restaurants in Seoul... Given that...

Yeah, it's always been the same as home for me. Sounds like you just happened to get a little one. Bound to happen sometimes. If anything, I'd say that the presentation of the food is much better at the Itaewon one then the one I went to in the US. The tacos and burritos always look nice, almost like a promotional picture. Of course, the one I went to back home had bulletproof glass and some surly-ass workers.
But this only applies to eating in. If you take that stuff home it turns into a luke-warm/cold sloppy disaster. |

I've ate Taco Bell in Itaewon about 10 times and it was good except the first time I went. The first time was pre opening and they just didn't know what they were doing. After that, it was good, but sauce is different. No biggie, it's still a tasty special as a hot funnel cake at the state fair in August.
I went to a Korean sandwich shop for lunch today and it was smaller than in the picture, because they didn't heap up the lettuce and tomato like in their menu pictures. It's just Korean style to be conservative on the fresh ingredients. It's like gimbap, you get a tiny sliver of fresh carrot with the rest being preserved things. This might also have to do with it being a bad weather year for growing things in Korea, because they don't import much quantity of fresh things outside of bananas. I doubt if lettuce, onion, and tomato are imported so they are struggling to stay under the max allowed cost to prepare each food item. |

Im a Brit not familiar with the taco bell culture, but I went there last week for the first time and it was superb! The burritos were small but filling nonetheless. Everyone's around me seemed to be the same size. Cant to go back tomorrow! Grade a stuff |

OK, thanks for the reassurances. I am sorry if I caused them any bad press. I certainly hope them all the success in the world and I'll be back often (but I may stick with the Taco Supremes for awhile). |

Damn...just be happy you got some Taco Bell. It took a long, long time for it to return to Korea. |

Well then just don't. You know that this has been a flaming open sore within the foreigner community and yet apparently you get some sort of glee out of poking it with a stick.
Shame on you. |
