I just completed my BA degree last week. My university (in California) takes 3-4 months to process the diploma, meaning I won't get that piece of paper until late December or January. But they will verify the completion of my degree on my transcript by mid September (next week).

I've been reading from various places (this E2 visa thread being one of them) that say an apostilled "letter of verification" from my university is acceptable for the E2 visa process in lieu of a copy of my diploma.

Does anybody know if this is true or not? I hope to be working in Korea by November. Any help would be appreciated.

Under the new rules (as of Sept.1/2010) the short answer would be no.
(require a copy of the degree with an apostille or Korean consulate certification)
HOWEVER
there is the option of verification by the KCUE of your degree which MAY give you a work-a-round.

Historically, the answer is/was/has been NO.
The actual parchment was required by immigration before they would issue a visa.

Hmmm ok thanks for your advice. I know EPIK teachers who recently left this past August were okay with verification letters. But they did need to show their original diploma (to their schools) once it was processed.

i think for EPIK verification letters are OK if you don't have your degree yet. It even says it on the website.
