Just curious to see if anyone has done the DELTA here. I'm leaving Korea at the end of my contract and am strongly considering it to boost my credentials. Just wondering the best way to prepare for it, what books to read, etc... Anyone?

It's a few separate modules. You can take most of them online. They will give you a reading list. Get on the Cambridge website for a full list of places that do it. The tutors for each course could assign different stuff to read but will cover the same syllabus.

I've considered it, but it seems more helpful to those in Europe or going to Europe. And I don't fall under either category.

I don't think that it's very useful in Korea, but it's very useful for getting a job in Europe, South America (part of it anyway), some Asian countries, and at least some schools in Australia.

But even in places where it's recognized, it's mainly a prerequisite for DOS and Head Teacher type jobs.

Recent job ads in Brunei asked for teaching certification or a DELTA.

I'm thinking South America or the ME, I'm finished with East Asia.

If you're going to go to South America, then the CELTA is very valuable for getting jobs. I can't say for all of South America because I haven't seen it all. I do know that it's recognized in Brazil, Argentina and Chile. Those are the biggest in terms of size and economy, hence more ELT jobs there. If you have the DELTA it's probably also worth something but I'm not exactly sure how valuable. But for just teaching, you don't need it (in South America). But then again, you can also get jobs in South America with no qualification at all (I met plenty of those teachers there). But without a recognised TEFL certificate you might not be able to get a work visa (so you'll be doing freelance work).

I want to do the DELTA because I want to get into distance education. I have an MS Ed in Online Curriculum Design and I'm Adobe Certified. The DELTA has a specialty elective and one is DL/blended learning. I'd like to try to get in that part of ESL. Not much call for it at all here.
