Can I renew my contract prior to the old one expiring? I want to renew before Jan. so I don't have to deal with an FBI check.
In January I will have been here for 7 months. Can I renew in December and not have to deal with the new regulation? |

If you renew in January, you will have 12 months on your new visa so it will expire before your contract finishes, and you can only get a maximum 30 day extension on your contract, something your employer might not be too keen on.
I suggest getting your background check done in January or even December to prepare for renewing. |

My understanding is that if your visa finishes after January 1st, and you renew before January 1st, you will still need to the FBI crc. I was in a similar situation with my degree. My visa was expiring after September 1st, and I was renewing in August. I was told at the immigration office that I needed my degree verified because my visa was expiring after September 1st. It also states that on the immi web-site. However that was only my experience, and I'm sure others had different experiences. |

You can do the renewal (or extension ) up to 60 days prior and no later than 48 hour before the end of your current ARC.
They will NOT permit it before then (so getting an extension at your 7th month mark isn't going to happen. Order your CRC.

I don't think this is the case. My visa was going to expire in October and I extended in August without needing the new documents. |
