I'm going to Kuala Lumpur for Christmas and New Year. Does anyone know any 5 star hotels that aren't too expensive? Also which area is the best to stay in?
Any more tips would be gratefully received. Very Happy

Just got back from there (2nd trip) a few weeks ago. First time we stayed in a rats nest near little India - but this time we wanted to see the "other" side of the city... Stayed a few nights at Traders Hotel in KLCC, literally directly across from the Petronas Towers. Hotel was 5* all the way, affordable (think $140-200 p/n), and in a wonderful location. KL is a pretty cool city, and that area is buzzing with western things (shopping, excellent restaurants, etc). The Mandarin is near by as well, and is the other really class hotel in the city. Good luck!

I stayed at the Hilton right at Central Station. It was really nice and had a convenient location. We payed about $85 a night.

I would recommend the JW Marriot. It is in a great location in central Kuala Lumpur. Close to shopping and loads of restaurants. They also have a great cigar bar (if you are into that type of thing) where you can just go to relax, watch some sports, have a nice Cuban cigar and some whiskey. Great after a long day of shopping and sightseeing.

I think I paid around 150.00 USD a night for superior room on the club level. The room looked brand new. The bed was probably one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in and the service was first rate. If I ever went to KL again I would stay there in a heartbeat.

Probably one of my favourite cities in Asia if not the world. Modern, efficient, great atmosphere, old and new together, great public transportation, fantastic food everywhere, awesome architecture, cheap, helpful and friendly locals (cough cough), good shopping. The Petronas have to be seen to be believed, the temples and mosques radiate with atmosphere, I could go on.
