 Posted: Thu Sep 16, 2010 3:36 pm Post subject: About to travel, but lost my ARC. Am I gonna have a problem? |

I'm headed to the Phllipines from Incheon today. I realized this morning that I must have lost my ARC this week- Obviously there's no time to get another.
I still have my passport with my updated Visa & Re-Entry permit. Are they gonna give me trouble at the airport or should I be cool? |

| You may have a problem, but I am not 100% sure. Best way is to call Korean customs at the airport. All I know is, I have left and re-entered Korea more times than I can count. I have always been asked to present my ARC. |

| I forgot to bring my ARC card one time when I went on vacation to Canada. The guy was annoyed and lectured me about bringing it but I didn't pay a fine or anything. |

Awesome. I know in the US if you forget a driver's license they kind of scold you and you have to do the like ENHANCED SECURITY thing, but it's no biggie. I always get double-checked at Incheon, anyway. |

I did the same thing, but I didnt realize it until I was ready to head to the boarding gate.
I got pulled aside and had to go to the immigration questioning room and had to explain that it was lost and I didnt report it because I didnt know about it until they asked. Actually, it was at home sitting on my desk, but its easier to say 'lost'....
After a few minutes of questioning, the immi agent entered it into the computer as lost and told me to get a new one as soon as I returned - meaning the next day, not a week after. So after about a 30 minute delay, I was good to go. The first 20 of those 30 minutes was spent waiting for a drunk foreigner dressed in a santa clause suit and his buddy to explain their situation to the agent....It was 6pm on Christmas Day.
I advise you to go to the immi office and report it lost NOW and save yourself some hassle at the airport. If they ask for it and you dont have it, they will see in the system that you already reported it lost. Things will go smoother that way. And when you get back, your new card will be waiting for you.
If you cant make it to an immi office before your trip, you can go to the immi office in the main airport area. Just make sure you do it before you try going to the boarding gates.
It's 10 000W for the replacement card and 4 000W for the delivery of the card. Take some pictures with you to the immi office, they may want a new one or they may just use the one they have in the system.

Second thing to learn here: Don't dress in a costume when crossing an international immigration desk. |

| I am dying laughing about the guy in the Santa suit. So funny! Imagine him on the plane full of Koreans for a 14 hour flight. Would have been hilarious!!!! LOL!!!! |

| Oh, and to stay on topic, I agree with your idea. Go to the immigration office in the airport and report it lost before you try to go through the security check. That way it doesn't look like you are trying to be shady. |
