I have an interview for a position at Kids College in Central Seoul and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this branch specifically. I've heard mixed reviews of other locations, but nothing about this one. Any information you could give me would be great! I'm using Education Adventure as the recruiter if anyone knows anything about them either. Thanks! |

Hmm, central Seoul? My girlfriend is at a Kid's College in sorta central Seoul right now. Good place, working out well. I don't think they have anyone new due in for several months, though, so probably not the same branch. |

I was one of the first employees at a Kid's College in Seoul in 1997, it was a nightmare from day one! From what I've seen and heard, nothing has ever changed. It's one of the most blacklisted chains in Korea. There may actually be a good one, but a good general rule of thumb when you hear their name, run like hell! |

Someone posted a contract from a Kid's College in the sticky above. It looks like one of the most awful plays to work. Like slave labor bad. I'm not sure if it's the same branch though. |

Yeah, but how old was that? Most of the negative remarks I've seen are going on 7-10 years old.
Right now, this very second, we're having a great experience. Not just with this branch, either, the head office as well. Very helpful.
Anyway - see if you can get an email address for a teacher that is currently working there. That's what we did, and it helped a lot. The only problem with that is what I've been calling 'the whiners'. Seems like half the teachers I meet here have no real life experience and whine about EVERYTHING at work, like having a job outside of Korea would be some magical ecstasy. If they give you the email address of one of those, be prepared for more 'Oh, it's slave labor and all Koreans are stupid' remarks. |

The contract I was referring to was posted today or yesterday....
I'm not saying if it is a good school to work at or not and I'm not sure which branch it was for. All I'm saying is the contract sounded terrible.
Speaking with an existing teacher is the best idea. However, if the teacher does say that working at the school is terrible and slave labor, I wouldn't disregard them as just "a whiner." It depends what they are whining about. For example, "Whaaa I have to teach 6 hours a day." Disregard, definite whiner. But, "Whaaa, I have to teach 6 hours a day but be at school for 10 hours, my apartment is old and has a mold infestation that the school won't help me get rid of or allow me to move, the director is crazy and yells at the Kteachers and treats us poorly." Listen and wait for a different school.
There are many guides and threads on this forum and other websites about what questions you should ask existing teachers.
Do not just roll the dice and get on an airplane to come here and work at any school. Do your due diligence and inform yourself about the job you are going to be doing. Life is stressful enough when you first get here starting a new job, not knowing the language, culture shock, leaving your friends and family, being somewhat isolated, etc...you don't need to be stuck working in a hell hole on top of that. |

Wow, I'm surprised. I did find out that all the Kid's College locations are run like franchises though - so there can be a big disparity between each.
You're right, though - be diligent. |
